English style barleywine aged in Angel’s Envy bourbon barrels. Brewed with enough Maris Otter pale, Aromatic and caramel malts to nearly overflow our mash tun. We then balanced this beer with some English Nugget and Kent Goldings hops. The resulting ale was sweet, nutty and powerful, but we didn’t stop there. The entire batch was put into used Angel’s Envy barrels for nearly 3 months to gather the residual bourbon flavor and some aromatic and drying oak notes. By the way, Balling is a measurement of specific gravity.

355ml bottle. Murky, dark amber colour with small, thick, creamy, half-wa ylasting, moderately lacing, off-white to beige head. Oaky and malty aroma, notes of vanilla and toffee. Taste is dry oaky, minimally tart-ish woody, some toffee, hints of vanilla, almond malty basis; dangerously hidden alcoholic power deploys forceful encephalic effectiveness nevertheless. I’m still at daggers drawn with this style: in this case the bourbon notes have a flattering influence on the unloved malt bulk, whereas not much hoppy counterweight fails to do the job. In the end largely a pretentious but nonsensical demonstration of force without comprehensible, flavourful concomitant features.

Refrigerated 12 oz. stubby brown bottle poured into snifter. Clear Amber with very little white head. Aroma is caramel malt, medium body, medium carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is caramel malt and bourbon.

Tasting at Matt’s
Cloudy dark amber to brown color, compact head. Nice blend of bourbon and malt aroma; light tobacco. Full bodied, rich but lean malt flavor, moderately sweet, strong bourbon flavor, and the alcohol punch is pleasant.

KRS 140815. Dark brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is toffee, dried fruits, pine, peaches, alcohol. Flavour is alcohol, bread, berries, toffee, dried fruits, pine, peaches. Full body. Nice beer.

Flaske hos Odd Gunnar, rbhd-treff 5.12.15: det nærmer seg slutten på denne hyggelige kvelden, og omdreiningshastigheten på de siste ølene er solid. Denne er vinøs, har bæraktige toner med sviskeplommer. Brunlig rav med kort skum. Lekende lett og lekker for sin voltstyrke.

Shared bottle at at Gunnar’s 05.12.15, with OGJ, JMD, KH and ABE. Clear, pale copper. Dark beige head. Dark malt, honey and dakr syrup in aroma. Similar taste, with barley wine. No evident alcohol.

42nd Floor Tasting. Hazy amber beer, decent cream colour head. Palate is airy with modest fine carbonation. Sweetish caramel malts, little cream. Nice bourbon soaked fruits. Little spice . Smooth light finish. Comes together very well, flavoursome.

Brown caramel colour, white head. Aroma of caramel, malts, brown sugar and chocolate. Sweet flavour, brown sugar and malts. Sweet malty finish, sugar, light bitter hint. Weird bottle.

Thanks! to Joes. 355 ml. weird medicinal bottle sampled @ ZZT XIII. Deep red amber, little tanned. Nose is weird spoiled fruit & sourness. Taste is sour puckering berries (not in a good way), weird & bad mix with touch sour sweeter malts, red grapes, vegetable, rotting fruit. Nasty body, thinned, weird carb. I am used to this brewery disappointing, this is worse than expected. I assume that issues are involved.

Bottle @ ZZT12. Amber colour, small white head. Smells veey sweet, farty, meh. Tastes very sweet, raisins, herbs. Full body, soft carbo.
