Straffe Hendrik Heritage is a special variety of the Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel, as it is a one year oak barrel aged beer. The beer is brewed in autumn and is only available in a limited edition.
The taste and fragrance of the beer are very complex and evolve through the years.
The tannin from the barrels blends exquisitely with the special malts in the beer.
The combination of the spiciness and bitterness of the quadrupel with the subtle taste of wine and wood from the barrels is inimitable. Licorice and dark fruits like raisins, prunes and figs can also be discovered.
With age the beer will develop a hint of porto as well.
EBC 100.

Bottle at home. Dark amber brown color, medium sized tan head. Aroma and flavor are malts, caramel a bit, toffee and banana-ish, brown candy sugar, lightly boozy. Not bad at all.

Bottle. A gift off Hydes. Clear deep ruby red. Slim ring of dense tan foam. Hugely vinous. Bit of chocolate and leather. Sweet vinous oak. Got to be red wine innit. Taste has some dark chocolate sweetness. Gets tangy lightly dry and vinous bitter. Smooth and drinkable. Fine carbonation. Tangy vinous finish. Tasty gear although overall it’s a little one dimensional.

16/III/24 - 75cl bottle @ Beer Battle, VIP-school / Het Spectrum (Gent), BB: 1/XI/33, bottle n°: 04395 (2024-168)
Clear red brown beer, small creamy beige head, a little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: weird, floral, infected, sourish, pretty dirty, lavender, something definitely went wrong with the fermentation or barrel ageing of this beer. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sourish, dirty, infected, tannins, wood notes, red wine, floral, soapy. Aftertaste: sourish, red wine, spicy, floral, candy, red fruits, unpleasant bitterness, some tannins, meh.

Pours deep brown. Aroma has a lot of dried fruit, quite nutty, some sour (piney?) wood; some wine character. Flavour also has dried fruit (cranberries, raisins), some pine I think, boozy warmth. Good amount of complexity in the flavour.
