In January 2016 our friends Txus and Eneko from Laugar Brewery (Basque Country) came over for a collaboration. It's turned out as a crazy but genius triple Saison-ish with salt, rye, smoked whisky malts and infused with bourbon. While thinking of a name for this new puppy we decided to combine two icons of our own cultures, Txapela & Klompen. Txapela being the traditional Basque headwear & Klompen being the traditional Dutch footwear. The beer is unpronounceable in both our languages now - probably neither in yours - but, hey... 'that's De Molen for ya'.

Hazy reddish - amber beer, decent cream colour head. Palate is smooth and fairly dry, decent fine carbonation. Smooth dry malts, some cream and caramel but not that sweet. Fair bit of spice. Mellow smoke ever present. Dried fruits and ripe fruits. Light dry finish. Drinks fairly easy for the abv but it never really takes off for me.

F: no real. C: red to coppery, hazy with a lot of yeasty debris. A: malt, whisky, bourbon, flower, caramel biscuit, hint of smoky, woody, fruity. T: malt, smoky meat, bourbon, vinous, hint of fruity, biscuit, caramel, herbal, salty, quite complex and good as very slow sipper in cold winter days, very special and tasty, 33cl bottle from Struise Bruges Beershop.

THT Feb. “Zuipschuit”. Unclear red amber with no head. Sweet barley malts, caramel, butter, brown sugar, spring onions. Medium sweet and light bitter. Medium body, quite alcoholic, nice malty supersweet finish. Barley wine that isn’t quite a barley wine.

Bottle at February THT. Clear amber with some big bubble. Some smoke, raisins, alcoholic, figs, dusty herbs, tortillas, smoked meat, bacon. Quite sweet with alcoholic and smoked bitter finish. Full bodied.

Bottle shared at THT. Hazy dark amber with barely any head. Aroma of butterscotch, toffee, malt, vanilla and caramel. Flavour is light heavy sweet and moderate bitter. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.

Tap (4Hops, Wroclaw). Piwo klarowne o miedzianej barwie z cieniutkim kozuszkiem piany. W aromacie nuty beczkowe czyli wanilii, drewna a do tego nuty wedzone plus sol. W smaku wedzonka, slodycz bourbonu i delikatna sol w posmaku plus lekko pikantne nuty na finiszu pieka w gradle ale w bardzo przyjemny sposob. Piwo tresciwe ale pijalne choc raczej na dluzsze posiedzenie.
