In January 2016 our friends Txus and Eneko from Laugar Brewery (Basque Country) came over for a collaboration. It's turned out as a crazy but genius triple Saison-ish with salt, rye, smoked whisky malts and infused with bourbon. While thinking of a name for this new puppy we decided to combine two icons of our own cultures, Txapela & Klompen. Txapela being the traditional Basque headwear & Klompen being the traditional Dutch footwear. The beer is unpronounceable in both our languages now - probably neither in yours - but, hey... 'that's De Molen for ya'.

Bottle from De Caigny, bottled 26-02-2016 BB 26-02-2041, large sample. Almost clear amber to copper color with lots of chunks of debris floating around, short head. Aroma of campfire wood, herbal, flowery, sweet bourbon, bit cookie, spicy, speculaas. Weird, goes a lot of ways. Not bad though. Herbal and spicy taste, smokey, herbal bitterness, bit dry, quite some alcohol. Weird. Reminds me more of some spirit, like a spiced up jenever. Not bad and quite likeable, but good? I dont know, still debating with myself. Flavor combination grows on me during the glass, so it might turn into a win here.

Orangish color with a minimal off-white head. Aroma is slightly caramelish with smoky notes, some yeast as well. Flavor has notes of peat, yeast, mild bittery with smoked meat. Medium bitterness in the final with light caramelish notes.

Bottle, 0.33, shared with Hoppiness Crew. Pours murky amber brown color with thin quickly diminishing off-white head and no lacing at all. Aroma is saisonish sour, woody, salty and smoky with light cocoa hint. Taste starts very sweet malty and fruity, following is smoky, yeasty and vinous, mouthfeel is warming and complex with well hidden ABV, while finish is mild bitter. Full body, thick texture and soft carbonation in palate. Carousel of uncommon tastes...

Bottle (from Koht). Pours reddsih amber with beige head. The head stays for some moments. Aroma is sweet, malt, caramel, smoke. Flavor is sweet and bitter, booze, alcohol, malt, caramel, some fruits. Finish is sweet and very boozy. Drinkability is low. Overall: this is a messy hobo fuel (for a stupid 10+ € price).

330 ml bottle at home thanks to MrHangover. Light hazy dark amber ruby color with off white head. Malty aroma, caramel, bread, smoked, peat, light fruity, vanilla, wood, alcohol. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma. Full silky oily body with soft carbonation.

Bottle @ home. Hazy cloudy red color, average sized off-white head that diminishes fairly quickly. Some yeast residu floating in there as well. Aroma is sort of ’all over the place in a not too bad way’. Malts, a bit smoky, bourbon, wood, alcohol. Taste malts, lightly smoky, bourbon, sweet sticky alcohol, lightly wood and a smoky alcohol bitter finish. Sticky thick texture, full body, medium carbonation. Heavy, weird and all over the place in a -how is it even possible- good way.

Botella 33 cl tomada en el momento en el kraken. 20..04..2016. (r16). Embotellada en 26..02..2016 hasta 26..02..2041. Aromas y sabores maltosos y cereales algo quemados y ahumados con ligeros toques acidos y cuyos del bosque. Cuerpo medio a intenso con algo de gas. Bastante original. Para repetir de nuevo.
