Bottle 330ml. [ As Brew By Numbers 08/02 Stout - Imperial ].Clear dark black brown color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, cacao, dark chocolate. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, chocolate, cacao, roasted. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20141205]

330ml bottle. Jet black colour with late awakening, small to average, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, dark brown head. Chocolately, roasty, dark malty aroma, notes of "Eiskonfekt", dark chocolate, some treacle, a touch of liquorice and orange liqeur. Taste is roasty dark malty, minimally ashy and chalky, bitter hoppy, notes of dark chocolate; oily texture, smooth and soft palate. Not overly rich and deep, quite an easy drinkable Impy Stout.

Bottle thanks to Evin, bbf July 2016. It pours jet black with minimal head. The aroma is rich, oily, bitter - sweet, treacle, dark chocolate, malt loaf, umami, liquorice and a touch of dark fruits. The taste is smooth, rich roasted malts, treacle, chocolate ice cream, coffee cake, some alcohol warmth, charred wood and peppery spice with a dry liquorice finish. Full body, low carbonation and oily mouth - feel. A touch more carbonation would be nice, but it is rather flavoursome!

Draught. Opaque black liquid with small to medium tan head. Aroma of coffee, licorice, light ash, chocolate and grain. Taste is dry and medium bitter with notes of licorice, chocolate, coffee and light booze. Full bodied with medium carbonation. Really good.

Keg at BrewDog Kungsholmen, Stockholm. Near black, small beige head. Asphalt and caramel up front. Sweet with full body and rounded mouthfeel. Tar, licorice, treacle and earth. Warming mid bitter finish. Well polished and rich.

Bottle at home in London - sourced from the brewery way back when. Pours oily black with a dense, tightly packed beige cream head that gradually billows into a thick layer of head. Lots of rich, dark fruits in the nose, roasted malts, dark chocolate, baking cocoa, molasses. The flavour is outrageously rich and decadent, with layers of different chocolate, sturdy roast, some charred wood, smoke, dried berries, raisins. Full bodied, silky and lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish, with some ashy bitterness, some scorched earth, baking cocoa, chocolate cake, cherries, raspberries, more raisins. This is an outstanding beer. Despite its heady abv, there’s barely any sign of that strength. The luxurious chocolate character is balanced out by a robust roasted malt ballast. From start to finish, this is world-class.

Bottle @ WWT IV, small sample. Dark brown color, short brown head. Aroma of chocolate, lots of dark roast, bit coffee. Bitter maltiness in taste. Not extremely complex, but nicely balanced. Quite straightforward imperial stout focussing on dark roast mostly.
