Clery dark golden, no head. Kind of gross looking like juicy juice. Smells like a mix of cheap fruit juice and old shoes and old socks. Taste is really bad. Moldy old strawberries. shoe polish, tiny tartness really hard to get through 2-3 ounces of this beer. Pretty terrible. this is not a gueuze. sorry

Bouteille 341ml. (2006)

Originally rated February 2006. Pours a cloudy caramel-orange colour with a small foamy head, that at least left a ring around the glass and a bubbly coating. The nose is quite sour with notes of fruits, like red apples and plum. Watery mouthfeel and no carbonation. Interesting high ABV for this style, but not felt in the mouth, no burn. The taste just barely has sourness in the back, hidden somewhere. Mostly, the same apples and kind of lemony and acid. Good try, but I will stick with the Mort Subite if I want a gueuze lambic.

Bottled. Cloudy amber colour. Acidic papery malt aroma. Lemony with sweetish malt and soft mouthfeel. Medium bodied. Interesting, but not much lambic character.

An unclear orange beer with a disappearing white head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of oranges and lemon. The flavor is sour with notes of malt and lemon. I’m glad the label says it is 100% natural - but I rather have the real stuff.

Muddy golden color. Some malty aroma, think of a Belgian Ale… Vegetable taste, a bit sour, disgusting, unfair to drink right after a real Bellevue…

2004? Bottle HUGE Thanks to Rastacouere for this! It may not be a Belgian gueuze and may not be even a gueuze at all, but bring it on! Opening the bottle, there is vapor given off, but no signs of infection (gushing, etc.). Pours a healthy amber to light caramel orange, with sediment in the bottle, and a fair amount of haziness in the glass. big white head on top. Aroma of spoiled peaches, light apples very dry wheat and plenty of sour yeast. Notes of light sugar grace the nose as well. Flavor is immediately lactic and quite sour at that. Light barnyard notes, but also an odd sugary caramel sweetness that dosent seem to belong. I do like the finish, though, as it’s quite deeply sour, has a wheat twang to it, with some quenching lemony tartness. Ripe cheese acidity. The alcohol is not terribly noticeable, and if I even realized it was 8abv before drinking, I forgot until looking at the description now. Body tends more towards a cider. Perky carbonation, attenuated, but still plenty of flavor. I must say, whatever the hell this stuff is, I REALLY enjoyed it! I’ll be buying a bottle of it when I go to Montreal. Rating is based on a Belgian wheat ale, not a lambic (which this is not).

Amber-gold; slim, disappearing yellowish head, fed by good carbonation. Citrus, pineapple, caramel in the nose, with Brett impression and touch of soap and ginger. Quite complex nose - unlike any Belgian gueuze, but no way bad. Harsh initial taste, composed of scorched caramel syrup, citrus, acids, going over in a softer, fruity flavour, which gives some impression of added sweetener. Low alcohol & acidburn, but they collaborate for giving this beer a true (super)attenuated mouthfeel. I imagine that were F. Boon fall without lambic tomorrow, and would have recurrence to a few truckloads of soured Palm ale, aided by the last remains of lambic around, this might actually taste similar. It has *some* ring of authenticity to it - but I’m not sure I’m enthusiastic...

Bottle – Poured a yellow hazy colored brew with almost no carbonation or head. You can detect some sourness through the aroma. Taste is partially sweet (lemon, orange?) with some acidic note. The sourness is missing as well as the usual tart associated with gueuze. Overall, this one is too expensive for the result but I still welcome the fact that this brewer was up for the challenge of brewing something different.
