Milde Herbe, fruchtig und süß bleibend, etwas pappig, kurzer Abgang. Meh. 8/5/5/5/8/5

At Bruges Beer Fest 2017. Pours hazy dark brown with a red hue and a tan head. The aroma contains cherry, strawberry, sugar and some yeast. It tastes medium sweet, light to medium sour and very light bitter. Medium body, sticky texture, short finish. Atypical as a Kriek but nevertheless dominating in sweetness.

F: big, very pale brown, average retention. C: dark red to dark brown. A: raspberries, cherries, candy sugar, hint of citrus. T: malt, syrupy sweet, cherries, raspberries, candy sugar, hint of bitterness, jam, medium body, lower carbonation, too sweet and not natural, not my thing, 0,33l bottle from Maenhout supermarket in Oostende.

Top-fermented strong sweet ’kriek’, a style which has become quite popular in recent years, especially in Wallonia and France. Thick, creamy, frothy, stable and sticky head, very pale greyish white, cloudy wine red colour with brownish hue. Aroma of cherry candy and red fruit jam, ’cuberdons’ (a kind of raspberry-flavoured sugar candy typical for Ghent), industrial honey, crème de cassis, brown sugar and a touch of caramelly malts. Very sweet, cloying, sugary taste, grenadine and red fruit jam, syrupy, very light fruit sourishness, caramelly malts underlying, very soft and faraway echo of bitterishness in the finish but otherwise remaining cloyingly sweet, with a noticeable alcohol warmth. One-sidedly sweet and syrupy, as all the beers in this particular (sub)style. Not made for my palate and if you are into this style for whatever reason, I would recommend Kasteel Rouge over this.

Sampled @ ZBF 2015. Very dark amber, little tanned head. Nose is very sweet & artificial, strawberry jam & syrup, lots of artificial sugar. Taste is same strawberry jam & sugar, artificial,… Bit thin. Okay if you like very sweet syrup beers. Also it tastes like strawberry & not kriek to me. I expected better. (Thx! for sharing people!)
