The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard's grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our "small brewery, BIG BEERS" philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is strong willed, assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness. Sinfully smooth considering the high alcohol content. Cellarable for 4 years.

Dark brown color. The body is rather thin. With dark fruit and cherries. A bit too thin body.

Pours a caramel from a bottle, decent off-white head. Aroma of candi sugar, vanilla, boozy bourbon caramel. Flavor similar, maybe some cherry, lots of good Belgian flavor from the malt and yeast. Slightly boozy finish, but doesn’t burn. Very good beer.

22 oz. bottle. Pours clear, dark brown, with a small, bubbly, tan head. The aroma is molasses, plums, licorice, black cherries, candi sugar, and black pepper. Very sweet and malty, with a light spice, and just a touch of bitterness that balances out the sweetness nicely. Medium to heavy body, sticky, syrupy, and a little spicy and well carbonated. This is a nicely done American Quad, which is no easy thing. Great dark fruit character, and wonderful spicy and bitter balance. Nicely done!

22 oz. bottle. color is dirty amber with a few pieces of yeast floating around. Thin head with head retention. Aroma is dark fruits, candy sugar, and toffee.
Flavor is much the same of the aromas with the addition of sweet bread and hints of alcohol in the finish. The body is lightly yeasty and medium in mouthfeel.
Food pairing: Goes well with wild game and artisan cheese.

Reviewed from notes.
The appearance had a somewhat dark amber/caramel colored body with a half finger off-white head that dies within about fifteen seconds, very little lacing spider webbing around the glass.
The smell had a sweet combination of apple, cloves, cherries are there but seem really light, a little bit of some spice.
The taste was mainly sweet through the previously mentioned flavors, sweet apple aftertaste, dry spicy finish.
On the palate, it sat at/about a medium to almost heavy - hmmm.... actually probably closer to medium, but not sessionable as ABV is somewhat felt.
Overall, I’d say this is a pretty good quad, but I think there’s other quads I’d rather have before this.
