IPA Brewed with Rye

Serious hop bitterness, along with an unyielding grapefruit bouquet from the Amarillo dry hop, balances the malty richness of four varieties of imported Belgian caramel malts. Pours a spectacular crimson with a creamy tan head. A generous addition of rye malt accentuates a spicy, crisp finish.

Tap. Worthy Burger, South Royalton, VT. Hazy copper colour. Off white, clingy head. No surprises here. Juicy, spicy, soft resin hoppage. Zesty, with soft chew. Easy drinking, albeit a bit thin, maybe. Soft spice bitterness on the close. Ok.

On tap at BrewDog Södermalm. Reddish with a small white head. Aroma of pineapple, caramel, some rye and grass. Similar taste, also notes of resin. The body was medium as was the bitterness. A tasty one.

Bottle in pint glass from The Drinkery, Londonderry NH. Aroma is yeasty dough, caramel, bread, with sweet floral notes. Appearance is hazy dark red-brown with nice sparkle and finger-width off-white head with fair retention and nice lacing. Taste is medium sweet with some fruit and light sour. Palate is medium bodied with thick texture, average to lively carbonation and dry, slightly spicy bitter finish. Overall, this beer was more yeasty and less hoppy than one would expect. It was also quite old so I don’t think this is the most representative rating. I’ll have to re-rate in the future.
