In het kielzog van het succes van Gulden Draak, creëerde Brouwerij Van Steenberghe in 1988 Piraat. Jozef Van Steenberge gebruikte dezelfde unieke wijngisten als Gulden Draak, maar verwerkte deze tot een uniek, amberkleurig topbier.
Het resultaat is een zeer drinkbaar, maar sterk bier, de naam Piraat waardig. Z’n kracht neemt je mee op een tocht door unieke smaken, gebrouwen volgens de rijke traditie van de brouwerij. Een levend bier met een rijk verleden. Set sail!

Bottle in a Lidl Belgian bundle. It's been a successful day as I've dealt with a little issue involving cars and I had a terrible beer earlier. So i thought id give this a try. Looks very good in the glass. Really rich flavour and a huge hit of alcohol, and it really dominates the profile. Ok, but pretty one dimensional.

Big off white head. Long lasting .Dark golden colour.Some orange peel aroma. Malt and caramel.Medium body.

Draft. A nice goulden, yeasty fruity belgian but not a lot that sets it apart from all the rest.

Bottled. In aroma at first the fruity and floral notes appear and later, with warming, the overwhelming alcohol, but that’s not unpleasant at all. In taste it has the same notes that appear at the same order with some additional bitterness in finish, but with warming this disappears. It leaves sweet mouthfeel, has soft carbonation and heavy body, but despite of that is easily drinkable. Pleasant beer.

11/01/25 Aromat mało intensywny słodowy z elementami drożdżowymi jakiś banan jabłko. Biała piana, utrzymuje się długo, złociste, przejrzyste. Smak przyprawowe pieprzowe, alkoholowe, chleb razowy, goryczka jest ale raczej nie chmielowa. Wytrawne. Nagazowanie duże, średnia treściwość, gładkie, alkohol rozgrzewa, finisz krótki. Ogólnie piwo fajne takie trochę pustawe bez jakiś smaczków, takie belgijskie.

Edit 3/2025. BB 30.3.2025. Honey, fruity, light caramel aroma. Murky amber body; extremely persistent thick lacing beige head. Sweet, fruity, spicy, alcohol warmth, honey. Full body; medium carbonation. Very good belgian strong ale, maybe too sweet. 0,33 l, bottle, supermarket, Bad Liebenzell (Swabia, Germany).
# 308; 4/2016. V chuti alkohol a sladkost zcela přebíjejí ostatní chutě, které lze jen těžko identifikovat (pouze karamel a vinné kvasinky). Příliš mi nesedlo. 8-5-6-6-6=*6,0

very typical belgian hoppiness. definetly a strong ripe frutness to it, but whoa its boozy! nice HUGE head, solid beer, but the booze isnt hidden very well.

Pours a hazy dark golden/amber colour with a big white head. Aroma of malts, fruits, spices, yeast, alcohol. Flavour is fruity sweetness and boozy. A bit too boozy for my taste, otherwise decent.

Bottiglia. Il gusto al naso propende per speziato e sottobosco. L'olfatto viene stimolato in maniera elevata, permanendo in maniera apprezzabile. Il cappello di schiuma ha una buona tenuta. La grandezza delle bollicine è medio-fine, con qualche bollicina grande, con carbonazione abbondante. La parte liquida si presenta limpida. Il colore è giallo dorato carico. Il corpo è pieno. L'amaro è pronunciato. La forza gustativa è elevata e la persistenza è buona. Le sensazioni boccali finali risultano di birra beverina. Il retrogusto è di decente intensità. Il tetto della bocca riconosce impressioni di caramello, miele, crosta di pane, frutta secca, agrumi, spezie e frutta passita.
