The original Piraat beer, launched in 1988 as a kind of pale version of Gulden Draak Classic (with the same yeasts).

From the brewery's website:

Clear golden color with a foamy white head. Looks like a normal blonde beer. Suprisingly moderate intensity in the aroma. Pleasant carbonation level. Tad sweet and a bit to moderate bitterness. Also a bit sugar caramel malty flavor. Some Belgian yeast and mild fruity. No sticky alcohol, but still a bit dull and boring.

Huge bubbly white head stayed well on a hazy, finely carbonated amber body. Big boozy aroma of malt & syrup. Medium bodied, sticky over the tongue with clean finish. Malt tasting with syrup, sugar, pine & berries

****
Aroma: not less than "8", delicate, fruity, sophisticated. Appearance: clear, clean, with great head, although for me the head lasted less, but when filled it was huge. Taste a "semi-concentrated, semi-wine-semi-beer" light-tasting, hop beer with just enough carbonation. Aftertaste is plentiful: caramel, cognac, dried fruit, and alcohol. ** Re-tasting the same experience, can only be recommended to those who are not yet familiar with this experience. On the other hand, alcohol feels very, it can be seen in the score.

0.33l bottle. Slightly hazy orange body with a huge white head. Significant amount of caramel in the nose with some orange zest, apples, sugar syrup, bread and some booze. Taste of toast, caramel, orange zest, grains, booze and quite a lot of floral hops. The alcohol is apparent, but not disturbing. Actually I expected something sweeter, but I don't mind it's more bitter than how I envisioned. Very nice beer.

Bottle at De Paas. Almost clear copper golden with white head. Lots of sweet malts, light marzipan, peach, bitter alcohol, light grassy herbs, quite bready and some toffee. Over medium sweet with quite bitter alcoholic finish. Full bodied with alcoholic finish. Too much alcohol but not terrible.

330 ml bottle, served in chalice. Pours pale vibrant orange with big foamy head. Ripe fruits, clove, coriander, bread. Fruity sweetness, hoppy bitterness. Finish is bitter with a strong alcoholic punch. Soft carbonated, medium body. Pure Belgium feeling.
