The original Piraat beer, launched in 1988 as a kind of pale version of Gulden Draak Classic (with the same yeasts).

From the brewery's website:
Set sail!

(Thanks, Jim! Ozzy70) Bottle. A- Bubble gum, black pepper, wheat, lemon. A- Golden orange color, clear liquid, white head. T- Peppery, straw, gum, playdoh, spices. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- A really good example of what Belgian ales should taste like. Really enjoyable and a lot of generic kitchen spices more so in terms of being peppery. Nice.

Tap at St Bernardus in Toyko. Golden colour, white bubbly head. Aroma is sweet caramel, slightly medicinal, bit of booze there too. Taste is alright, toffee, hot alcohol, solidly sweet and malty. Alternates between booze and bubblegum. Bit of a knockout but to be fair I probably knew this before I ordered it.

Soft malty aroma with a touch of citrus. Malty, alcoholic flavor with some distant fruit to soften up this beer. Pleasant, but with a limited character.

33 cl bottle poured into a Trappist glass. Clear deep golden colour with a medium sized white head. Sweet aroma with yeasts, green apples, floral and earthy hoppy notes. Booze. Some sugar. Taste is sweet. Full bodied. Drying finish with rich pale malts. A rich beer with some classical Belgian touch. Fine.

Obviously not as good as the Golden Dragon, as cool as pirates are.

Bottle, many thanks Manu! Hazy golden color with creamy white head. Aroma is fruit esters, yeast, sugar icing, not too intense. Taste is estery, peach, slightly warming in the back. Very smooth creamy mouthfeel with velvety carbonation. Quite balanced!

Flaska från Beergium. 2013 vintage. Gyllenfärgad med högt vitt skum. Stor söt och fruktig doft. Honung, söta äpplen, tropisk frukt, vetebröd, torkad frukt. Stor silkeslen kropp, potent med mycket värmande alkkhol. Snyggt integrerade smaker. Lätt kryddig med lite syltade apelsinskal och ingefära. Mycket gott.
