We joined up with Kees Bubberman, the main Dutch beer impressionist of our time, to dream up something both ephemeral and memorable. That’s how we ended up brewing our new imperial stout, Asperatus, along with the good folks over at Brouwerij Kees.
Burnt and caramel malts came together into a unique chocolate flavour, and we threw in both raspberry puree and lactose while aging for noticeable sweet-berry notes.
The result: a harmonious balance of raspberry layered through with chocolate. A bold protest against the classic masters!

330 ml. can. Canned on 02.09.2019. Fullest can of beer ever – impractical a bit – absolutely filled to the brim, cool. Black syrup with basically no head. Nose is heavy sweeter black bread, sugar, very faint dark berries & molasses, very faint umami. Syrupy body. Taste is sweet dark berries, heavy sweeter black bread, sugar, low molasses, sweet but not overly sweet actually oddly, very low liquorice. I suppose I get very low raspberry way in the back but really given Bakunin & raspberry pastry on the can nowhere near enough, what happened to my raspberry pastry? Nice but totally not what I hopped for.

0.33 l can via Secret Santa 2019, canned in September 2019, courtesy of ShivanDragon, thanks Edwin! Pitch black with a thin, slightly creamy, almost stable, light brown head. Sweetish-malty, gently roasty aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, hazelnut and some vanilla. Gently sweet, malty, quite roasty taste of dark chocolate, coffee, toasted hazelnut, some vanilla and a touch of raspberry, followed by a medium long, gently roasty-bitter and slightly earthy finish. Medium to full body, smooth and gently creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Solid Stout, somehow quite monotonous though. Where's the raspberry?
