We love hops – that’s why our flagship Double IPA, Heady Topper, is packed full of them. Heady Topper was designed to showcase the complex flavors and aromas these flowers produce. The Alchemist has been brewing Heady Topper since 2003. This Double IPA is not intended to be the strongest or most bitter DIPA. It is brewed to give you wave after wave of hop flavor without any astringent bitterness. We brew Heady Topper with a proprietary blend of six hops – each imparting its own unique flavor and aroma. Take a big sip of Heady and see what hop flavors you can pick out. Orange? Tropical Fruit? Pink Grapefruit? Pine? Spice? There is just enough malt to give this beer some backbone, but not enough to take the hops away from the center stage.

From 16 ounce can at Whole Foods! Hazy antique gold with massive billowing head. Slight fruit in the aroma. Flavor is stone pitted fruit and bitter throughout.

Can @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Jan 19. Thanks Paul for this. Highly anticipated by other members of the group. I was a bit underwhelmed by it. No doubt this beer has its place in the history of US craft beer, but in today's climate it didn't hit the high notes for me. Light and fluffy, floral, citrus, hop notes seem a little diminished, pale malt coming through. Not getting the expected huge hop hit. Perhaps a fresher can would see a different rating.

28th Jan 2019. Shrewsbury Beer Exchange Group meeting in Chez Sophie. Cheers Paolo for bringing a can of this 'famous' beer to the share. Golden body, wispy white head. Hoppy little number isn't it! Citrus leanings throughout and not as bitter as I had expected. I think the West Coast IPA's/DIPA's seem 'fresher and more initiative' than this so called 'classic' DIPA, slightly underwhelmed with this, but still enjoyed the experience of trying for the first time.

Pour is a hazy orange with a large white head. Aroma is some big pine notes and a dry malt almost like a maris otter type of malt. Flavor is more pine and pops of bitter citrus all over the tongue along with more of that dry maris otter British type of malt. Not quite the type of hazy fruit bomb IPA's that are made now. This is more bitter and malty but there are plenty of hops to like in this.

Ljus, disig bärnstensfärg. Medelstort skum. Humlig doft med tall, kiwi och apelsinskal. Humlearomatisk smak med mycket tallbarr och tallkåda.
Välbalanserad och mycket lättdrucken.

Can. Color: Hazy golden, frothy white head. Aroma: Fresh hopbitterness, citrus hints. Taste: Over medium floral and citrus hop. Pine and lightly resinous. Subtle lime and mango notes. Light to moderate sweetness. Great bitterness. Medium body. Average to above average carbonation and at the same time a pretty smooth mouthfeel. Long lasting bitter finish. Very nice.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 21B - NEIPA). Can 47 cl - Batch unknown (BBF unknown). AROMA: medium-high hop aroma with green notes, some polen-like, light resin, lime. APPEARANCE: light gold color and slightly hazy. medium white head with medium retention. TASTE: medium-high hop flavor with notes of pine, slight resin, fresh-green notes, slight lime and polen-like, floral. mainly neutral malt background with a medium-low sweet initial note. medium-high bitterness with a slightly dry and persistant bitter finish. PALATE: medium body with medium carbonation. slight alcohol warming. OVERALL: a very nice DIPA-like beer, that started a whole new style.
