Draught at Toronado, San Francisco. Surprise surprise its a reddy brown colour with a middling tan head. Sweet malts and piney hops predominated in the nose, and it was a similar yarn down the flavour lane. Some slight burnt notes lurking. Bitterish finish. Quite tasty and perfectly drinkable, but lacked any real complexity or balls.

Bottle. Dark red with an inch of beige head. Pine and singed caramel aroma. Taste has toffee malt without being very sweet, lots of pine and some grass. Bitter finish. Started off thinking this was very crude but pretty nice, but the malt side has nutty and toasted things going on that aren’t quite obscured by the big resinous hops. Unbalanced - of course - but pretty good.

Pours dark mahogany with a large dissipating head.Nose shows lashings of piney resin and fruity confectionery followed by caramel and fruitcake. Very nice.Flavours follow along the same lines with lots of rich malt providing dried fruit and nutty characters, after which the piney hops enter. The bitterness is a bit sharp and domineering.Carbonation is a bit high but without it the rich malt could be cloying.

Poured from 12 oz bottle, enjoyed during the opening night of the 2010 NFL season! Aroma is very prevalent with a strong malt / caramel backing, smells like it’s a high ABV brew. Appearance is a deep amber / red hue with a thin, thick head. Taste is smooth but thick, really complex, goes down very easily. Definite hop presence with caramel notes, rather rich. Would definitely drink again.

Nicely blended aroma of wood, grapefruit peel, very woody. Hazy ruby brown, thin head. Rusty and metallic. Flavor is tart malt and currants. Dirty, rustic finish. Quite a nice "india dark ale" or whatever it’s being called. Alcohol content isn’t excessive and is well concealed. Slightly too hoppy to be an ABA.

12 oz bottle. Pours red brown with lots of chunky debris and an off-white head. Light citrus hop aroma with a little caramel. Flavor has a fair amount of citrus and grassy hops and some toasted and caramel malts. Flavors start out a little light but gradually intensify. Solid.

(Bottle) Poured reddish brown and clear. Head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma contained malts, molasses and hops. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, molasses, hops, mildy roastedness, some sea water, hint of liquorice and medium bitterness. Aftertaste was malty and bitter.
