Not your typical “Jelly of the Month Club” beer. Dark roasted malt and bittersweet cocoa and coffee flavor and aroma burst from this pitch black milk stout. The full body and sweetness are derived from the addition of lactose (aka milk sugar) which is not fermentable by beer yeast. A healthy dose of English Kent Goldings hops provides a counterpoint to this ale’s rich and complex maltiness.

Tap at St. Augustine's. Nose is chocolate with a bit of roastiness. Sweet cocoa flavor, some coffee, roasted wood. Tasty, a bit thin on the palate.

Dark brown. Thin head. The aroma is roasty and a bit nutty. On the palate, it's pretty light, quite sweet, and has just a light bit of toastiness. It ends up being ok.

Thanks willisread for the can! Poured into a snifter showing pitch black with sparse latte colored foam. The nose shows molasses and light licorice. The palate is light bodied and well carbonated. Lightly sweet with a light coffee tartness and flavors of licorice and light hops with mild hoppy bitterness.

Thick creamy light brown head stayed well on a jet black still body - looks do appetising..... Dark chocolate, cream, demerara & malt aromas. Medium bodied, sharp on the palate with a clean finish. Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, bubble gum & malt tastes with a finish of pine, hops & citrus. A near perfect Stout

Sampled from tap at ’Craftbeer Corner Coeln’. Clear, dark reddish brown to black with a beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty aroma of milk chocolate, nougat, hazelnut and some vanilla. Very sweet, moderately roasty-malty taste of milk chocolate, sweet coffee, hazelnut and some vanilla, followed by a medium long, moderately roasty-bitter, slightly earthy-dry finish. Medium to full body, smooth and creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Maybe even too sweet, but still very tasty!

pint can.
