For those of you who don’t know who “Scotty Karate” is. He is a local one man band who plays an amazing slurry of honky-tonk influenced, punk-country songs. (Check him out at www.scottykaratetime.com) A big bold musician deserves a big bold beer, that’s why Scotty and our Scotch Ale are a perfect tribute to one another. Scotty Karate is brewed with cherry wood smoked malt instead of the traditional peat smoked malt offering up warming notes of coffee, caramel and sweet caramelized brown sugar. Scotty finishes earthy giving this beer a character all it’s own, just like the man himself.

Cellar find!
Clear dark amber to purple brown beer, creamy yellowish beige head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: sweet, lots of dried fruits, caramel, butter scotch, soft roast, bit of banana. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: soft roast, sweet, caramel, lots of dried fruits, bit sugary. Aftertaste: slightly bitter, hoppy touch, some caramel, banana, bit malty, sweet, some alcoohol but mainly it's pretty well hidden for a 10% ABV.

Decent Scotch ale, pretty massive for the style, a heavy-ass wee heavy. Aroma slaps you with a hearty dose of caramel and slight red apple fruitiness. The pour is no great shakes, thick and red but with little head and no lacing. Taste starts sweet, grows boozy, and finishes sweet. Doughy chocolate mixes with caramel and a dash of raisins and banana, then picks up a modest bitterness to help dissipate all the sugariness. Doesn’t help much, however; the finish is caramel bun with a woody undertone, and the fade picks up a mild bready yeast note. Hides the massive ABV well, that’s for sure, yet it still comes across a little slack with the mouthfeel. Wonder how the bourbon barrel edition stacks up?

From the tap at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours dark brown, with minimum foam. Aroma: caramel, licorice, fruits under spirits. Body is lighty with some carbonation. Taste is sweetish, with final bitterish feeling typical of scotch ales. Finish is not too long.

Tap at Gambrinus. Pours a clear brown with a small bit of egg-shell colored head. Tons of vanilla in the nose and touch of caramel...toasted. Get this...watermelon all the way through the mid-palate. Light and hides abv. Better than I expected. --- Beer merged from original tick of Scotty Karate Scotch Ale on 09 Dec 2016 at 00:34 - Score: 7. Bottle from Pi-Bar. Feels like the Coca-Cola of beer. Dark, sweet, thick, viscous. Still distinct scotch. Lots of carbonation, not as warming as others. High drinkability, smooth texture. Very nice.

Bottle (from beergium). Pours dark ruby with beige head. The small head stays for some moments. Aroma is sweet, caramel, malt. Flavor is sweet and somewhat bitter, caramel, malt. Finish is lingering caramel sweetness with some burtn sugar-citric bitterness. Alcohol is mostly covered, feels potent, but not boozy. Overall: good, but maybe bit too simple.
