What’s this? A British-style IPA named after the man who defeated His Majesty’s Royal Navy in the War of 1812? Consider this a bold, hoppy (and mildly ironic) plunder of war.

Pours a clear golden yellow with small head. Grassy, floral aroma--hops are rather muted. Flavor is quite sweet, with citrus and piney hops. Sweet, almost fruity finish to the beer. Not as bitter as some IPAs. Interesting.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a shaker. I have had access to this even before I started rating, how I did have this earier I haven’t a clue. Pours medium golden with small white head that dissapates quickly. Some lacing, medium body, and sticky texture. Taste is great grapefruit up front with slight bitterness in the finish. This is crisp, refreshing, and would be a good summer time brew.

Bottle shared by HopasaurusRex, thanks for the opportunity! Pours a deep amber color that borders on copper with a smallish white head that shows moderate retention and lace. Smells of earthy, citrus and piney hops with a solid caramel and bread malt backbone. The taste holds no surprises that the nose couldn’t ferret out. Caramel and bread assaulted by earth pine and citrus. Medium body and carbonation level with a sweet honey like mouthfeel. Great IPA, I wish it were a bit easier to get in my corner of the planet.

Bottle. Pours medium golden with a small off-white frothy head. Smells of deep grapefruit and peach. Lovely! Tastes of bittersweet grapefruit, light orange, orange peel, pine, and soap. Luscious!

12oz bottle from Chuck’s poured into a Shaker. Bottle dated 8/02/2011 Color is dark yellow or light gold. About 1 finger of bright white head. Nice and frothy. Aroma is some slightly sweet malt with a lot of citrus and flowery hops. Taste is lightly sweet and medium bitter. You can really taste some hops in here. Light bodied with a somewhat thin texture. Slightly fizzy carbonation and a medium-long, somewhat bitter finish. Overall, it’s pretty good. This is a great IPA for the price. Not my favorite, but if I saw it on a store shelf again I would definitely pick it up.

Purchased at Schaefer’s in the northern Chicago burbs, enjoyed on a cold fall Chicago night at home. Appearance is clearish gold with a beautiful head...looks like it should be in an advertisement. Aroma of citrus lemon / grapefruit hops and crisp malts. Taste is very smooth, an easy drinking beer, great balance with hints of grapefruit. Have enjoyed in the past and will enjoy again.

Thanks Tony @ OTH for the share. orange pour, white head. aroma of caramel malts, hops are more present than the Burning River APA. flavors, caramel malts, dry palate, light hops with grapefruit notes / citrus. Light lingering bitterness with a decent malt approach. Side by side, GL’s APA was my favorite choice.

Whole Foods, DC ($9.99): Pours copper with a slightly off-white head. Aroma is a little bit on the malty side for an IPA, with a good amount of hops and sweet fruity notes in there as well. Citrus hops are all up in the taste, but there is a rather prominent malt backbone. Smooth at the front and the finish is where it gets all bitter like. Not my favorite IPA, but in no way could one say it is anything but good.

12 oz bottle, best by 08/30/10. Pours a clear, slightly orange golden with an off-white head. Aroma of sweet pale malts and caramel matched with some citrus hop notes. Flavor is a bit more hop-forward, with pine and citrus, backed by some caramel hints. A nice bitterness comes forward after the first couple sips. Pleasant.
