A pale-gold hued ale, fermented with a Belgian yeast strain, resulting in a beer that has notes of lemon citrus from the hops, and black pepper spice from the yeast, with a dry “tingly” finish.

Tap @ Mikkeller Bar Aarhus. Pours clear yellow with a medium white head. Aromas of sweet esters, yeasty, citrus, floral. Taste is classic saison yeasty, lots of floral notes, sweet esters, wheaty sweetness.

Can from Craft Brewed. Pours a clear toasted gold color with a finger of foam that dissipates. Very Belgian yeast driven nose with clove, coriander and lemon aromas. Crisp carbonation with more coriander and floral honey notes as it warms up. Fairly well-balanced with light toasted whole grain bread on the finish with peppercorn and honey. --- Beer merged from original tick of CynicAle on 22 Aug 2018 at 22:30 - Score: 7. Original review text: Belgian yeast-forward nose. Coriander, lemon and clove notes. More of the same on the palate, sweet malt. Lingering peppercorn.

I got this in a trade with Lofgrep. Thanks Peter!
This Saison pours from the 1 pint can a slightly hazy orange gold and a small 1 finger head of foam with some good lacing.
The smell has notes of yeast, pepper, some clove, and some hoppiness. An inviting nose for sure.
The taste is more complex than the smell. I get the pepper and the nice yeasty flavour right off the bat but there's some fruitiness with orange and some apricot there, some spices. I'm thinking coriander, some earthy tones right before the finish, and the finish itself has some pepper and some hop bitterness. Ok, I failed to mention the honey and yeah, it's there and I don't usually like a brew that has honey in its taste but...for this one, it works well. Nice job Surly!
Good medium mouthfeel and the carbonation is fairly brisk. Very drinkable as the abv is a big non factor.
What more can I say other than, it's a thrill to get the style in a can but a bigger thrill to get so good an example of the style, that happens to come in a can. Great stuff and highly recommended.

Got in a trade with The-Adjunct-Hippie. 16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 5/6/2016. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big lemon, orange, peach, pear, apricot, apple, peppercorn, light clove, biscuit, light honey/toasted bread, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, bready malt, and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon, orange, peach, pear, apricot, apple, peppercorn, light clove, biscuit, light honey/toasted bread, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Moderate yeast spiciness and light herbal hop bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, orange, peach, pear, apricot, apple, peppercorn, biscuit, light honey/toasted bread, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, bready malt, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/spiciness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from yeast spiciness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/creamy/sticky, and fairly crisp balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol for 6.5%. Overall this is a great saison. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, bready malt, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth, easy, and fairly crisp/clean to drink. A bit on the malty side for the style; but still stays spicy/drying enough to feel like a saison. A very enjoyable offering.

16 oz can. Hazy pour with a nice, clean head and some average lacing. Yeasty and fruity, bright floral, some pepper. Lighter sweetness, spice, and some good, clean bitterness. Tingly, bright mouthfeel. Finishes mid-dry. Pretty nice.

Can. Musty yeast, light white pepper, malt, and hay aroma. Golden yellow with off white head. Mildly sweet orange/peach, yeast, malt, and mildly bitter herbal hay flavor. A very pleasant saison.
