This is a reincarnation of the 68/- brewed by Ushers of Edinburgh in 1885. This is a beer to sip slowly, not only because of its alcoholic warmth, but to appreciate the complex flavours and the long, hop finish. This is not a sweet beer, yet there are flavours of crystallized sugars and sweet dried fruits.

Sampled from bottle @ The Hague tasting. Hazy dark orange color, small white to offwhite head. Smell and taste malts, some alcohol, some hops. Well what to say about this beer. It’s good and that’s it. Nice and would buy again.

Bottle from Dunnottar Wines, Stonehaven. It pours hazy brown with medium yellow-white head. The nose is toasted brown bread, earth, toffee, berry, raisin, fig, jam, butterscotch and brown sugar. The taste is caramel, toffee, dried fruit, grape, candy, brown bread, light vinous notes, bitterness, touch of alcohol, toast, earth and hot-cross bun. Medium-full body and moderate carbonation. Interesting drinking for sure, but not sure how much I could drink of it...

Bottle from Beer Hive, Edinburgh [080613]
Caramel amber brown, big white head, hazy, no lacing
Aroma of fruity malts, red berries, no alcohol, some raspberry, fruity caramel
Taste of soft caramel malts, fruity red berries, really good malt flavour here which is quite complex, very fruity malts, touch of alcohol warmth, so so smooth, getting a very slight saltiness
Palate - Medium body, very smooth, soft fruity caramel malt palate. FInish as main flavour, smooth fruity malt linger
Overall - This just comes across as well crafted - the malts are just so well done here - not easy to describe. The alcohol is so well hidden. It’s a really good beer and it’s great to try old recipes from the past.

Bottle at Craig’s, Edinburgh tasting, big thanks to Craig for this beer. Shared in company of Craig, Stella, Jan, Charlotte, Fritz and Loz 30.10.10 Dark amber appearance with a light beige head. There is some burnt toffee and plenty of depth of flavour to this. Some hoppiness shows but there are plenty of dried christmassy fruits. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6
