Opaque black beer, good tan - cream coloured head. Smooth palate, it’s soft but has some weight. Smooth dark malts - not roasty or bitter. A light creamy coffee. Finishes smooth and dry with mild alcohol warmth. Nice light trace of oak. Overall a smooth beer that hides it’s abv reasonably well.

Aroma of black treacle and dark chocolate. Texture is thick and syrupy. Flavour has sweet burnt sugars/molasses and coffee. Aftertaste goes on with tar and warming alcohol.

750 bottled a little over a year ago - hopefully enough time to tame this somewhat - black pour with a surprisingly substantial tan head for the abv - nose has a lot of toasted oak, vanilla, prune, fig, licorice, bourbon - very slick in the mouth - low carbonation - a lot of dark fruit in the flavor (fig, prune, raisin), along with bittersweet chocolate, toasted oak - a bit of tartness and acidity late, balancing things a little bit - however, the finish is fairly sweet and still quite hot, bordering on boozy - some good stuff happening - perhaps dialing it down to 10 or 11 would lessen the heat in the finish.

Bottle from a trade with Gription79. Bottled 9/14/11. Pours very dark brown with garnet highlights and brown head. Dark chocolate and roasted malt aroma with hints of licorice. Loads of bitter dark chocolate flavor with roasted malts, vanilla and licorice. Slight alcohol burn but well hidden considering it’s over 13% abv. Full body with minimal carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel. Thanks Dallas.

750 mL bottle from Beer Run. Pours a viscous very dark brown color, opaque, with a large dark brown head. Average head retention. Aroma of rich chocolate, soy, toffee, vanilla, wood. The taste is sweet malts, sunflower, nuts, bitter hops, chocolate, vanilla, soy, bitter roast. Full bodied, lingering bitterness, low carbonation, moderate to high heat. Nice beer.

Sample from a big bottle@SBWF2011. Quite much black colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is chocolate, some roasted malts, caramel and some ashes along with liquorice and mild spices. Flavour is chocolate, caramel, some ashes, liquorice and mild ripe fruity notes. Also has some slight alcohol sweetness to it.

25.4 ounce corked/caged bottle. Bottled on 06/09/11. Opague black, brown color topped by a small creamy tan head. Rich smokey roasted malt aroma. Oak, charcoal, tobacco and cocoa present here. Wow! There is a huge complex mix of flavors in the first sip. Think cappuccino, black pepper, oak, treacle, licorice, baker’s chocolate and more. So many flavors and nuances. this is truly a special brew. Their are some herbal, resiny hops here, too. It is warming and chewy, like drinking the best single malt scotch and creamy italian cappuccino all in one quaff. Not to be missed! A must for any fan of rich, dark ales.

Väldigt gott. Komplext och väldigt smakrikt. Doft och smak av laktris, vanilj, torkad frukt, mörk choklad, med toner av tobak och trä. Kryddig eftersmak.

Corked bottle
Black color, with a small sized borwn head, creamy. Strong aroma of chocolate, with notes of nuts, roasted nuts, dark coffee, phenol, light alcohol. Very strong body; the mouthfeel is round; very good chocolate flavor, and roasted malt; unfortunately there is also a too evident liquorice presence; medium sweetness; the final is very smooth, with a nice blend of dark chocolate and black coffee.
Bold. Very good.
