Bottle from Systembolaget, bought in June 2011. Black, thick with a small tan head. Aroma of light roasted malt, some alcohol, tobacco and vanilla. The same in the nice taste. 13,2%, thats what the labels says.

Bottle, 75cl corked. Looking really sexy this one, with its black body and dense, fingerthick beige head. The aroma has some alcohol, not much considering the ABV, followed by roasted malts, caramel, dark sugar, hints of vanilla and some meaty hints. It’s sweet, warming and full-bodied in the mouth, with flavors of coffee, roasted malts, dark sugar and some bitterness. Lasting finish. Even though it weighs in at 13.2% ABV, it’s sort of quaffable. Intense in aroma and flavor, but it slides down very easily. 110610

Bottle @ home. Deep brown appearance with an initially, very large, dark brown head that dissipates fairly quickly. Aromas of black licorice, dark chocolate, light coffee, toasty oak aroma though not really any hints of booze in the nose. Tingly mouth feel with a bit of booze. Roasted oak, burnt black licorice, dark chocolate flavor with a hint of vanilla and coffee. Pretty big flavors but they seem to cover up the alcohol pretty well.

Pitch black coloured body with a oily thinnish brown head. Aroma of deep licorice and anise with some pungent roasted malt and alcohol coming through. Medium to Full-bodied; Deep strong licorice and aniseed flavours with a lot of coffee and roasted malt flavours also pungent. Aftertaste has quite a bit of alcohol, some caramel and other sugars and the ever present licorice flavour. Overall, a very nice beer, if a bit too strong, especially for the size bottle - but a well crafted beer. I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia.
