Can, 0.473l. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, nuts, vanilla and dried fruit. Pours almost black color with thin creamy brown head and sparkling appearance. Taste starts with medium sweet and rich roasted malt, coffee and bitter chocolate, following is milky and faint fruity with vanilla note, mouthfeel is smooth and mild spicy, while finish is average grassy bitter. Medium body, creamy texture and lively carbonation in palate. Smart looking stout…

Pint can, poured dark brown with modest tan head. Medium bodied. Vanilla, coffee, cocoa and lactose aroma. The first three of those flavors play nicely together in the taste, but the lactose at the tail end is a bit heavy handed. Middling.

Can. Pours black with a light tan brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of coffee with bitter dark grains and a bit of vanilla underlying. Flavor combines coffee and vanilla with a bit of earthy dark grains and a slightly thin finish.

Can picked up from Beer Republic, Breda and consumed at home Attenkirchen, Sunday 29th March 2020, (Day 12 of self isolating). Had a great cycle ride to Haag an der Amper via Zolling with Kostas, cooking Pizza in the wood oven tonight and I have made a pistachio ice cream, listening to a selection of music by Kostas, Sisters of Mercy, Verve, Guns and Roses, etc. Pours black with a a light beige head. Lots of coffee, creamy but not cloying, roasty, some burnt toast and a little wood and vanilla. It's good, really good.

American double stout (not a true 'imperial' one this time, mind you) with vanilla and coffee flavouring, can - with funny drawing - bought at Beergium. Medium thick, mousy, pale brown-beige, open head with flat 'dots' in the middle, black robe with hazy chestnut brown edge. Aroma of hot black coffee and coffee filters, blood-like iron, toasted walnuts, burnt cake, only very light vanilla in the background but becoming a tad more pronounced when warming up, bayleaf, bitter chocolate, caramel, gravy. Clean onset, hints of burnt raisins and dried berries, sweetish with a sourish undercurrent as well as a gravy-like, yet sufficiently subtle umami accent; quite lively, bit minerally carbonation, slick and oily body, full. Toasted-nutty, toast crust- and black bitter chocolate-like maltiness, bittersweet but with more emphasis on the bitterness than is usually the case these days, with this aspect being reinforced in the end when the coffee sets in, both in a roasted flavour and in retronasal aroma (the latter less pronounced than the former). The vanilla again remains painfully absent (or nearly so), but a black-peppery hop bitter touch and lingering coffeeish roastedness make up for a lot, filling the mouth. Quite 'old school': typically American double stout, sure, but a bit like they were made two decades ago, with pronounced coffee bitterness - something I can always very much appreciate in a stout. Too bad for the vanilla getting a bit lost - and thus not entirely delivering what it promises - but I enjoyed this one a lot nonetheless.

Can shared at Castlegate. It pours darkest brown to black with a small dark tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, charred wood, umami, tarry, leather, big coffee character, burnt toast, vanilla, toasted marshmallow and some light umami. The taste is slick, oily, rich roasted malt, charred wood, burnt coffee grounds, earthy, vanilla, toasted marshmallow, spicy and savoury with a drying, toasty finish. Medium body and fine, foamy carbonation. Decent.
