The nickname “feral” was given to us by Adam Firestone to describe our operation at the Barrelworks. It was not a compliment. David Walker, however, embraced the name, thinking it perfectly described our untamed character and as a descendent of a more domesticated nature. Since this was a rare moment where they both agreed, we quickly adopted “feral” as the name of our first offering in the bottle -a celebration of our first year as the Barrelworks. Feral One is blend of our best efforts, from hand-selected barrels, chosen by the Masterblender and Barrelmeister that have been aging in both American and French oak barrels for 18-32 months. Four different beers were blended to create this amazing concoction: Sour Opal, SLOambic, Lil Mikkel and Agrestic Ales. An earthy funky nose gives way to citrus, tropical (guava) and berry fruit notes. A hint of Oak wood, lavender, and vanilla lurk in the background. The tongue is greeted with an assertive and mouth-watering acidity, chewy tannins, and mature oak, and firm carbonation. This beer is an absolute pleasure to drink anytime

Bouteille 375ml de et partagée avec Rado_ cheers to you Sasha for sharing. Bottled 12/10/2013.

Woodshed 3.0! Sample courtesy of MrBrightside53, thanks Kevin. 37.5cl bottle pours with a deep gold body that supports an off white head. The aroma offers up crackers, biscuit and then big lemon acidic notes mixed with soured citrus and slightly funky yeastiness. The taste delivers plenty of lemon like acidic puckering tartness and then it picks up modest funky soured citrus lined with just a dash of maltiness. Pretty cool and not over the top searing and puckering with acidic crushed aspirin notes.

From a 375mL bottle. Thanks birdmachine! Aroma is really pretty nice with some light malt character, moderate Brett notes and medium light acidity. Light barnyard notes with tropical fruit, citrus and cherry. Medium light oak character. Pours a hazy orange with a medium sized, moderately thick, white head. Moderate retention but it recedes fairly steadily to the edges where it lingers. Light lacing and medium small legs. Flavor has a medium acidity with a nice lemon, citrus character. Lots of Brett character in the form of tropical fruit and cherries along with a light barnyard funk. Medium light bitterness with moderate oak character and light tannins. Light malt character. Very dry finish. Mouthfeel is medium light with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall a very nice slightly tart, slightly funky beer with a well balanced oak and malt character. Reminds me a bit of a young, less tart Ithaca Brute. I would kind of prefer a more tropical fruit forward Brett note.

Bottle @ home, big thanks to arminjewell for sharing! Pours a cloudy orange appearance with a white head. A ton of oak, vanilla, passion fruit, brett, and some cheese in the nose. Spritzy mouth feel. Actually a ton of funk and brett and cheese in the flavor. Juicy with lots of pineapple and tropical fruits. Tart, juicy, dry finish. Lots of funk. Some tannic notes. A touch of white grape. Kind of a fun brew.

Bottle thanks to Matt. Pours a cloudy light orange with thick frothy white head that lasts. The aroma is strong brett, citrus, and funk. Thin mouthfeel with strong brett, crisp fruit, and light sour finish. Very impressive, easy to drink.
