Our third Stone Hop Worship Series release goes back to two of our favorite “retro” hops: Amarillo and Simcoe. These hops really aren’t that old as their development only goes back to the late 90s/early 2000s but with all the innovation out in the hop world, they seem like they’ve been around for a while. Sometimes taking a step back and appreciating what we already have is another form of innovation. These hops combine for a myriad of cool hop aromas and flavors including old school West Coast IPA attributes along with new school tropical qualities. It’s a perfect way to end the year’s Hop Worship Series.

Clear light amber body with a well laced white head. Nose is a soft mix of tropical fruit and sweet biscuit malt. Less going on than anticipated. mango, kiwi and melon with a touch of fruit rind. Definitely understated for a Stone IPA.

12oz can. Poured a clear dark yellow color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was juicy hops, with pleasant malt backing. Lots of floral hop notes here. Resin out the wazoo. Citrus, crisp finish.

A hazed golden ipa with a thin white head. In aroma, nice biscuit malt with resinous floral hops, nice and smooth. In mouth, a nice biscuit malt with resinous floral hops, treacle, pine needles, very nice. Can from CJs in Potsdam, around May 2019...so about 10 months old.

Pours a clear, golden yellow, with mid-sized, lasting, fluffy white head. Aroma has some grassiness, a touch of citrus, some hops. Flavor is crisp, clean, and bitter, with pine/spruce hops predominating, perhaps a touch of citrus, some grassiness.

From a 355ml can on 20/3/2019. Pours a clearish medium golden with a small head. The aroma is strong dank, herbal and fruity, with some caramel at the back. Has a big malt backbone, sweet stone fruit and a big satisfying lingering piny, herbal bitterness. Medium bodied with moderate to average carbonation. Has great length, balance and drinkability. Truly excellent and under-rated on here imo.

Tap at Craft Room. Clear golden, lasting white head. Interesting fruity aroma, somehow woody, figs. Taste...clean maltiness, fig, vague herbal bitterness. An IPA that's not an IPA anymore... And it was imported very recently...

On tap at Craft Room Zagreb or Valhalla Zagreb, really not sure. Clear darker golden coloured, medium sized white head, piney and mild fruity nose. Sweet malty, light piney, some citrus and touch of grapefruit with rather bitter finish. Nothing more nothing less than ok.

Can pour into nonic pint glass from Greg & Jane's Beer and Wine. Appearance is slightly hazy, pale yellow-green (urine-like) with decent sparkle, finger-width, white, foamy head with fair retention and minimal leggy lacing. Aroma is citrus and cracker/bready malt backdrop. Taste is moderately bitter citrus, floral along with biscuit/bread. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with smooth texture, lively carbonation and bitter dominant finish. Overall, to be fair, this was just outside the best by date (2/5/19) so the hops might be more interesting from a fresher sample. Otherwise, a spiffy new name but doesn't seem to stray appreciably from the classic Stone playbook: emphasize bitterness, in combination with mild citrus/floral flavors and balance with significant malts. Yawn.
