Black ale with aromas and flavours of vanilla, dark chocolate, bourbon and roasted malt. The vanilla and cocoa marry nicely, without out-competing each other, to produce a surprisingly well balanced beer. This beer is mildly hoppy, but the cocoa introduces a touch of bitterness. Its colour may be intimidating, but it is a very smooth beer within reach of most beer drinkers. This highly appreciated dessert beer is brewed with organic fair-trade cocoa and first rate vanilla beans.

Bottle at WWT3. Poured a deep mahogany with a thin broken off-white head and an oily consistency. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with lots of liqourice, roasted malt and alcohol. A very drinkable beer.

341 ml bottle. Pours black with nice tan head. Aromas of dry dark chocolate, black coffee, and creamy vanilla. Tastes like a dark chocolate Mars bar in a glass. Flavours of milk chocolate, espresso, cocoa powder and heavy roasted malt. Nice light bitter finish. Excellent.

Pitch black color, creamy light brown head. Very smooth, rounded body, which made me wonder if this beer is served on Nitro. Lots of dark fruit and dark chocolate notes, but unfortunately I also picked up a bit of plastic. Dark chocolate lingers in the finish. I am sure I would have a different rating if this beer hadn’t been served at sub zero temperature at National Beer Hall.

Whole Foods, Bowery 11.5 ounce ($6): I have wanted to try this beer for a while and finally now have my chance. Anyway, pours black with a brown head. Aroma is vanilla, burnt malts, and dark chocolate. Taste is somewhat sweet. Slight bitterness around the finish. Loads of chocolate. Vanilla is kept to a minimum, which I have no problem with. Mouth feel, Slight burnt aftertaste. This is a pretty dope stout.
