Nestled in the bay just off the coast, Boston's Harbor Islands are rich with history and intrigue. Each is known for its unique appeal and backstory, with a string of larger narratives tying them together en masse. The Harbor Islands IPA series grew out of the exploration that took place in our Permutation Series, where we developed a new series of IPAs that showcases extraordinary hops, building on our team's experience brewing hoppy beer at Trillium.

Bumpkin Island is small yet picturesque, offering great views of the other major harbor islands and the city of Hull. The island was leased to tenant farmers in the colonial period, hosted a fish-drying operation in the early nineteenth century, and a fish smelting operation in the early twentieth century.

Pouring an amber orange hue with moderate haze, Bumpkin Island IPA’s signature Mosaic hop offers a nose rich with aromas of ripe pineapple, lychee, and tangerine. These flavors extend through to the palate with notes of fresh cantaloupe and are underlined by a touch of biscuity malt. Accents of zesty pine provide light balancing bite while a fuller, pillowy mouthfeel lends itself to a soft, smooth finish.

Can, from the source. Extremely hazy orange juice like look with small frothy off-white head, unripe mango-mandarin aroma, adequate carbonation, medium bitter unripe mango-mandarin peel taste, somewhat thick body, long finish. Well balanced taste.

Pours a hazy, orange-gold, with mid-sized, lasting, creamy white head. Aroma is quite dank, with tons of tropical and citrus fruit. Flavor is rather bitter, with lots of pine/spruce hops up front, some citrus and tropical fruit, and a goodly amount of malt and biscuit flavor to boot. It's a touch more bitter than most Trillium haze-bombs, but it's really good nevertheless.

Canned 10/16/18, drunk 10/25/18.
Kind of an ugly, cloudy, copper-heavy brass-golden. Off-white head fades quickly to nothing.
Nose is nice. Full of Mosaic goodness that Trillium does so well. Somehow their mosaic IPAs almost never come out scallion or garlic-heavy. Or maybe there's just enough malt, yeast ester and what not to mostly cover it up? If I look for it, it's there, but it's not "bitter", vegetal, intense scallion. Just a hint in the background. Otherwise, it's full of fruity yeast, bubble gum, honey-rich malt and full-on mushy yellow fruit Mosaic goodness. Very light pine on the end with no resin, alcohol or flaw.
In the mouth it's soft, sweet, borderline mushy like Melcher street. Good bitterness to it, pine and grapefruit accentuating things through the middle with some wheat and biscuit/cracker thrown in for dryness. Low, tight carbonation, lingering pine and nectarine-mango. Forget what I said about Melcher street, this one is way more balanced, with more bitterness and actual pine that helps break up the sweetness of the malt and bubble gummy ester. No alcohol or flaw. Goes down smooth.

Pours blood orange into a snifter. White head recedes to hug rim. Orange, mango and pineapple aromas. Soft with mango pith and pineapple upfront turning to hot melon and citrus in the medium length finish.
