Nice slightly hazy deep brown coloured body with a lighter brown head. Aroma of nuts and hops - pretty nice, actually! Medium-bodied; Nice hop flavour supercedes the nuts and the malt. Aftertaste shows hops too. Overall, more of an APA style dark ale, but great to try regardless! I’d prefer if all browns were like this instead of the normal nutty ones! I sampled this on draught at the Albany Pump Station in Albany, New York on 25 June 2006.

On draught 4/09/2005 at the brewpub. This one actually gets a small head, with probably the best retention of the lot (not saying anything). Light grey-beige head atop a fairly dark, mahogany brown. Light transluscent haze. Smells of caramel and light chocolate and prunes. Flavor of light prunes, some fruit that is on the verge of spoiling, black pepper?, caramel and a bit of bland cardboard on the finish. A very, very light roast and light chocolate are discernible. Sugary, lightly coarse palate, with some gritty/grainy malt, and at the same time, a bit of water on the finish. Low hops apparency, though a little bit of complexity from the amarillo hops.

April 2004. Gold to deep copper ale. Sweet aroma and floral hops well married. A good malt base with a sustained bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied. OK beer.
