XXXX refers to the alcohol level and the depth of flavour in this stout. Our kettle hops drum up a fabulous aroma, flaked barley delivering big time on texture and the darkly roasted grain building a flavour as solid as a rock. Not for the faint hearted. Can you handle it?

440ml can BBE Oct-20, just 'Porterhouse XXXX', the 'Wrasslers' part not showing. Pours black, beige head, good retention. Aroma is roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate and sweetness. Somehow you can tell this isn't going to be a mellow stout. Taste is bitter from the off with a roasted malts, coffee and dryness. The middle and finish to this beer is just a receding element of the beginning with an increasing sweetness coming through, also some smokiness. Blerb on the can states 'this is not for the faint hearted', then asks 'can you handle it?'. Answer: yes I can, and it did grow on me, but I wont be buying it again. I still prefer the mellowness of a Guinness even if the flavours are more muted in comparison.

0.33 l bottle, thanks Marko! Shared with PBF Baby Driver and Mlađo Mods. Dark. Licorice and soy sauce, coffee with sugar, dark chocolate. Dry and very roasty finish. Slightly herbal, light candy. Medium body, moderate carbonation, sticky, lasting finish.

Bottle. Opaque deep brown to black. Moderate well-lacing head of beige colour. Aroma: roast, coffee, earth, a bit vinous. Light to medium body. Taste: fairly dry, very roasted, a fair amount of coffee and cream. Earthy and citrusy bitterness. Light plus hopping. Outstanding dry stout.

Draft at the source. Very dark brown with a creamy, tan head. Aroma is chocolate, ink, acids. Taste is bitter, full of ink, coffee and varnish. Finishes the same. Medium body. The only dud I had at the Porterhouse.
