Deep, fairly hazy and opaque dark brown coloured body with a thick, microfoamed light brown head - six centimetres tall or so, quite nice! Aroma of malt, earth, soft chocolate, a touch of coffee, peat and a good deal of nuts that show some elegance and soft scents. Medium-bodied; Very velvety mouthfeel with the deep malty and nutty tastes from the aroma, but also a good peat, fruit (pitted) and mild spice complexity that make this nice, but the lager yeast barely comes through (I consider this a good thing) and only at the tail end. Aftertaste is clean and very soft with the roasted malt, caramel and nuts the strongest elements by far. Some grassy and dry notes (from the hops, it seems) are picked up, about at the finale, but the mellow chocolate and caramel show sweetness at the very end. Overall, a very classy and refined beer - especially as a lager - this is very nice and well wroth trying to find - even for those who typically aren't fans of lagers or schwarzs in general! I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 23-June-2019 for US$3,59 sampled at home in Washington on 31-August-2019.

Cardiff Giant, Brooklyn tap: pours black with a long lasting tan head. Aroma is chocolate and roasty malts. Taste is a nice roastiness, with light sweetness. Tasty.

Can, from City Hops. Pours clear dark brown with reddish tint against the light, large foamy beige head, very faint roasted malt aroma, high carbonation, mildly bitter roasted malt taste, thin-smooth body, abrupt finish. Smooth and easy to drink.
