This beer is a salute to the ingenuity and creativity of the American craft brewers. A uniquely American style of beer, the Double or Imperial IPA, has become the calling card of many craft brewers who aren’t afraid to push the limits of what hops can add to a beer. This beer is big and hoppy - not for the faint of heart! Be prepared to experience sensory overload as you savor this Imperial IPA.
Sensory Profile: Hops, and lots of them. The aroma is bursting with the classic citrus and pine aroma of American-grown hops. The flavor is dominated by a hoppy bitterness, with just enough malt to make you want to take another sip.

Food Pairing: This beer needs an assertive food to stand up to it. Match Captain’s Reserve with aged cheeses such as Stilton, cured and grilled meats.

Bottle. Pale yellow with large spongy beige head, floral/piney aroma, high carbonation, slightly sweet hoppy taste, long finish with the alcohol kicking in at the end. Great IPA except for the somewhat strong taste of alcohol that remains on your palate.

Bottle from a trade. Poured into a snifter, because I can. Pours a hazy dark orange with a half finger of white head. Aroma of citrus, grapefruit and pine. Taste is medium bitter and light sweet. Same as aroma with citrus and pine but some sweet caramel also. Full bodied with a somewhat creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a super long, slightly warming finish. Pretty awesome. Would love to drink this again

11/I/14 - 1Pt. 6Fl. Oz. bottle @ JorisPPattyn's place - probably 2010 or 2011 vintage (2014-30) Thanks to Joris for sharing the bottle!

Little hazy blond beer, irregular off-white head, little stable, pretty adhesive. Aroma: some honey, sweet, bit floral, dried peaches, sugary, little spicy. MF: ok carbon, full body. Taste: sweet start, bit sugary, honey, citrus, some sweet exotic fruits, pineapple, passion fruit, soft bitterness. Aftertaste: honey, pretty sweet, very fruity, lots of citrus, grapefruit, soft bitterness. Very nice! Never had a double IPA of this age that held up so well!

At a tasting at KyotoLefty’s place. A straw gold with a filmy head, powerful aroma of citrus with a touch of pine. A medium to full body with an ascerbic, bitter, hoppy... kind of stinky tropical fruits, citrus & pine. A solid IPA, not so complex but good & not too boozy.

A 0.5l bottle @ Tribeca Tavern, NYC. A really lovely looking fluffy big white top on this one. Looks like a be from the comics books, and the body is as good as clear and golden in color. Fantastic hoppy and sweet fruity aroma. Really peachy with lots of mango and mango zest. Lots of pine and pine cones also. Smells as archetype-correctt as it should. Lovely. The pine continues in the taste. Lots of it. The mouthfeel heel is to my surprise a bit light, thin oily i guess and the carbonation is quite soft. Lots of sweet sticky malt sweetness with a floral touch in the finish. Quite easy to drink considering the imperialism of it. 14.06.2013
