The Tumulus Aura is the lighter brother of the Tumulus 800, for bitterness as well as for alcohol percentage. Therefore it is an ideal reception beer or an alternative for lager beer for those that seek additional value! The composition of the malts is similar and the hopping is done with the same noble hops for the Tumulus Aura as for the Tumulus 800. Also the fermentation of this beer is done with the same unique yeast strain, developed by the KU Leuven/VIB for De Kale Ridders, who selected it for the pleasant and fruity aromas it produces. After the high fermentation the Tumulus Aura is refermented in the bottle.

(bottle, 33cl) Slightly hazy, golden colour with a steady mid-sized foamy white head. Slightly yeasty and distinctively grainy malty aroma with restrained fruity notes, backed by a touch of herbal hops. Moderately sweet flavour, light to medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Slightly grainy malt character with a slightly medicinal touch and a tinge of bubblegum, accompanied by herbal spicy hops; quite dry and moderately bitter hoppy finish with grainy and flowery spots in the aftertaste. Lacks wheat character, smells and tastes like a Lager … like a decent Lager by Belgian standards. 03.III.14

Pale blond with lasting bright white head. Aroma is quite citrusy and yeasty. A very fresh, crisp beer with a light acidity and a lightly dry, hop bite to the finish.

Bottle @ home shared with Thompson. Hazy yellow color, small white head. Smell and taste some herbs and spices, some sweetness and a touch of fruitpeel. Hmm don’t really like it.

Draft sample @ ZBF’13 shared with the RB Belgian crew.

Draught Small white head over pale golden beer. Raw hops, grassy, herbal, lunaria. Malts dominate the taste with maltsyrup, cornsyrup and earthy notes. Despite the syrupy impression, the sweetness is held in check. Medium bodied, not very carbonated, light MF. Well - OK. Not very outspoken wheatcharacter.

33 cl. Bottle sampled @ ZBF 2013. Experiment 5 as in #5? What happened to #1-#4 were they undrinkable or… why start with 5? Is it because that is more experimental? I am confused. Only lightly hazy pale golden, creamy white head. Light hops in the nose, grass, spices, wheat, light hint of sourness,… Taste is okay wheat, light spices, light white bread, white sugar, light grassy hops, grains and dull citrus. Lightly lower bodied. Not much experimental stuff going on.

18/III/13 - 33cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ home - BB: 14/I/15 (2013-249)

Little cloudy pale orange beer, big creamy white head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: bit fruity, grassy hops, bit chemical, paint, dusty. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: fruity and citric start, orange peel, grains, grassy hops. Aftertaste: very bitter hops, grassy, some citrus, almonds. Pretty good for a very light session beer.
