This brown ale has a marked ruby brown colour with a gen-erous and lasting head. It has a distinctive aroma reflecting the wide range of ingredients used in its production. The fruitiness resulting from its fermentation blends harmoni-ously with a dominant liquorice and caramel flavour. The body is decidedly malty. The bitterness is the result of a complex alchemy between the fine hops and special malts used. These give St-Feuillien Brune a typical dark chocolate appearance. This beer creates an endless variety of sensations with a lingering taste and powerful aroma.

Bottle from M&S. It pours dark mahogany brown with a medium beige head. The aroma is rich brown bread, toasted malts, earthy, dark fruits, fruit cake, brown sugar, nougat, sugared almonds and some icing sugar. The taste is dry, bitter - sweet, dried fruits, date, fruit cake, earthy, woody, toasted nut, spice, leather, warming alcohol, candy sugar, molasses, black bin, brown bread and some tannin with a drying finish. Medium+ body and high, foamy carbonation. A decent B-Dubz. Drinkable stuff.

This 33 cl bottle came to me by way of a friendly Belgian retailer. Always happy to taste a new dubbel, I’m using my Straffe Hendrik tulip on this one. The delivery is a tawny brown, quite cola-like, with a steadily recharging wisp of eggshell brown foam. I lift for the scent and get dark fruit, banana and bread. Enough of the prelim, I’m here for the drink. Nectarine, crackers, yellow raisins, malt, perhaps some straw. Starts and finishes dry. Appreciated but not exulted.

3 months past best before date. Big creamy head. Raisin aroma and flavor. Dusty, somewhat metallic with just a hint of sourness and soap. Fairly thin.

330ml bottle. Hazy, dark brown colour with average to huge, thick, creamy, slowly osteoporosing, minimally lacing, beige head. Yeasty fruity aroma, notes of prune, dried fruit, raisin, plum, dark berries, some banana, baked apple. Taste is dry, minmally sweet, fruity, moderately bitter, slightly grassy and minimally citrusy hoppy, notes of apple, pear, a touch of lemon, hints of prune, dried fruit, plum, fig, date, slightly nutty, sweet-ish, minimally sugary malty basis. Very fruity, rather distinct and clean fruit flavours - good.
