This brown ale has a marked ruby brown colour with a gen-erous and lasting head. It has a distinctive aroma reflecting the wide range of ingredients used in its production. The fruitiness resulting from its fermentation blends harmoni-ously with a dominant liquorice and caramel flavour. The body is decidedly malty. The bitterness is the result of a complex alchemy between the fine hops and special malts used. These give St-Feuillien Brune a typical dark chocolate appearance. This beer creates an endless variety of sensations with a lingering taste and powerful aroma.

Bottle at Hops, Crewe. Pours a very dark ruby with a small frothy cream head. Raisins are the mainstay of the aroma, alongside hints of cocoa and bananas, The overall sharpness is what is first noticed in the mouth, though that quickly moderates to being merely bitter. There is a creamy texture with plenty of flavours rotating inside – dried fruits, figs, nuts, molasses, yeast, rotting bananas and marzipan, plus hints of liquorice and cloves. Bitterness lasts into the dry finish. This is quite nice – hides its strength well.

0.33 l bottle from 'Craftbeershop.com', best before July 2026. A bit hazy, deep ruby with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, beige head. Sweetish-malty, gently yeasty-spicy, minimally fruity aroma of caramel, cocoa, clove, overripe banana and hints of raisins. Quite sweet, malty, moderately bitter, quite yeasty-spicy, slightly roasty and a little fruity taste of caramel, cocoa, toasted nuts, clove, nutmeg, marzipan, some overripe banana and a touch of raisins, followed by a short, moderately bitter, slightly dry finish. Medium body, fairly effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Decent ale, just way too effervescent.

Stubby bottle from the lcbo. Opaque Brown pour, with a big beige head. Loads of dark fruit, bready, yeasty malt, and that metallic Aroma and flavour I find in all dubbels. Medium bitterness, strong fruity esters with loads more yeast and breads in the finish.

Aroma of malts, yeast, caramel toffee, brown sugar, some liquorice and a faint anise. Flavour is brown sugar, medium to heavy sweetness and spicyness. A decent but rather run-of-the-mill Dubbel.
