Bottle from Geers. Golden colour, white foam. Light citrussy nose, malty, bit tart, light bitter finish. Bit watery. Not very well balanced but drinkable.

Bottle from Bezoekerscentrum De Lambiek in Alsemberg. Herberg’s wheat beer, but it does not look like just another Hoegaarden epigone: instead of the standard hazy ’white’ colour, it pours a warm and clear ’old gold’ colour, with lively fizz, turning hazy with deposit; the head is thin, loose and egg-white in colour and breaks open quickly, but retains (thinly) on the edges. Sweet and fruity aroma of pineapple, mandarin, cider, bread, honey, orange peel, iron, something faintly cooked vegetable-like (DMS), floral hops, but I do not get coriander. Restrainedly fruity in the mouth, gooseberries, hints of apple and peach, soft carbo, smooth and slick mouthfeel, pleasant bready malt flavour with a light caramelly edge as well as an equally bready and somewhat grainy wheat presence - a bit sourish, but clearly not raw wheat, as indeed this one appears to be made with malted wheat, like a German Weissbier. Ends with this same maltiness, bready and lightly sourish, paired with some deep, leafy hop bitterishness with a subtle floral aroma retronasally; the hops provide drought and balance. This is not your stereotypical Belgian wit, this is a Belgian blonde made with malted wheat, and in that sense even a fairly enjoyable one; the sourish wheat brings freshness and has a quenching effect and there is enough hop presence to achieve balance. Nothing extraordinary, but likeable for sure.

Sampled @ Gents Bierfestival 2014. 330 ml. bottle. Hazy orange, creamy white head. Smells f soap, lemonade wheat, touch chemicals,.. Taste is sweet white sugar, chemical, soapy, lemonade wheat toffee, yeasty citrus,… Muddled wheat / lemonade / yeast body. Nope this didn’t seem entirely kosher, still drinks though.

Bottle @ home. Clear light to medium orange color, small white head that leaves good lacing. Smell and taste wheat and a touch of fruitpeel. A light citrussy fruityness towards the end. Average body and carbonation. Don’t think this is a Belgian White though.

Quite clear appearance for a wheat beer. A fresh, citrus hop aroma. A refreshing bitterness and a bit of peppery spice from the yeast.
