On tap at Zwanze day 2011 Chicago. Pours a hazy brown with a brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has notes of dark fruits with a bit of hop and roasted malts. Flavor begins with some tangy dark fruits a bit of pine comes out with dark grains and toast backing throughout.

Black color; medium sized head. The aroma is herbal (heater, mint). Good chocolate flavor, with some residual sweetness, and light minty touch. Correct bitterness; quite evident alcohol warmth in the final. Strange.

330ml bottle as a beer gift from the one and only Harrisoni, thanks! Tan-coloured head slowly fading over a very dark coloured body. Smell of berries and peat-like malts. Flavoured with sweet chocolate malts, dusty hops, and dark bitter berries, in fine harmony. More bitter berries on the swallow. Noticeable, but integrated alcohol. Full bodied. Very pleasing (hotel room, London 03.08.2011).

Bottle @ Dan’s house. Dark brown appearance with a light brown head. Spruce/juniper, a touch minty, organic hoppy, dark malty nose. Juniper, organic hoppy, slightly roasty dark malty flavor. Organic hoppy aftertaste. Pretty interesting.

Bottle. Pours with a mahogany brown hue with a massive, creamy tan to light brown head that stays and leaves very nice lace. Aroma is extremely spicy. Seems phenolic or even chlorophenolic with notes of methanol. Ginger, brown sugar, rum, ginger ale, light umami, pine and juniper like hops, chocolate, bready, dusty. Light roast malt profile. Very odd. Flavors are rich, chocolate, estery, mint, ginger, fudge and toffee. A bit boozy. Finish drier than that last description sounds. Fig and dark fruit. A bit muddled; this is all over the place. Juniper and pine notes, a bit spicy (hop?). Very dry for its size. A bit of vanilla, lingering coffee, raisins, biscotti. Overall bitterness is medium to light. Maybe this is on the old side, but, in hindsight, sounds nothing like the commercial description. Creamy mouthfeel, lively bubbles, warming yet smooth. Weird beer!

Bottle. Black beer with a big tan head. Grapefruit and big caramel/toffee aroma with dried fruit and cocoa. Cocoa and toffee flavor with grapefruit, yeast, and light roast. Medium bodied. Cocoa and toffee lingers with dried fruits, grapefruit, and yeast. A lot going on, but it works very well.

Dark brown colour, slightly hazy. Big brown head, the colour of cappuccino foam, the middle part where the coffee came through. Aroma quite strong malty, rye, spices, liquorice (trekdrop), coffee, soy sauce, caramel, roasted tones. Interesting, though maybe a bit unbalanced. Flavour sweetish malty, liquorice, burned malts bitterness, coffee and chocolate, vanilla, with a roasted background. Finish malty and a pronounced burned malts bitterness. Some hop bitterness shining through in the ending. Quite nice.

Tap at City Beer Store. Brown and muddy in appearance with little head. Lots of malt with a raisin fruitiness. Chocolate and cinnamon toast. Grassy, piney hop notes. Light bitterness in the finish but rather sweet otherwise. Thick feel.
