12 ounce bottle from Trader Joe's in Princeton, NJ. Dark red, brown color. Small creamy tan head. Interesting toasted malt nose. Flavor is toasted malt and burnt sugar. Notes of brewed coffee and scorched walnuts. Light resiny hops in finish. Lacks depth for the style.

This is surprisingly solid and more like what you might find in Dusseldorf than many American brewed altbiers. Nice lacing head. Brown color and lightly sweet aroma which I think is from the yeast. Malt, Medium dry and what they really got right are the hops, which are so often too prominent in American brewed altbiers

12 oz bottle into a straight sided tumbler on 7th Jan 2018. Obtained from Trader Joe's at Dana Point, Orange County, California. Deep brown with a ruby hue when held up to a strong back light, lightly tanned topping of bubbles. The nose has a malty lead, some coffee grains and dark chocolate notes. The taste is also malt forward again with some coffee and chocolate within, a nutty hint too. I thought the beer a little 'thin' in body depth and just a bit too carbonated. I usually enjoy an Altbier, but this didn't do it for me at all.
