Syracuse Pale Ale

Location: Sampled at the NY Brewfest on Governor's Island, 6/19/10

Aroma: The nose is fairly light, some caramel, light fruits, and grass
Appearance: Pours a mostly clear copperish-yellow color
Flavor: The taste is also a bit light, but solidly balanced with a mild sweetness and mild bitterness
Palate: The body is light, the beer is crisp and clean, and just a bit watery
Overall Impression: This one is for all the Orange out there, as I believe it is not only the first beer I've tried from Middle Ages, but the first beer I have tried from the home of the Orange (I still find it funny that they went from being the Orangemen to the Orange, but that's not really relevant to the beer rating). Anyway, this beer was a decent pale ale, solidly enough made, but ultimately underwhelming.

Brown bottle, 12 ounces, trip to Beers of the world with Dum, Ian and Luc, purchased on August 26 2006, savoured on June 9 2010; eye: polished copper, clear, minimal effervescence, tan head that turns into a tiny ring, no lacing; nose: malt, light grain, light floral hops, light Madeira; mouth: malt, light grain, light floral hops, light Madeira, finale in malt with presence of grain, light-medium body, below-average carbonation, a bit thin, light acridness; overall: ordinary FRANÇAIS Bouteille brune, 12 onces, voyage à Beers of the world avec Dum, Ian et Luc le 26 août 2006, savourée le 9 juin 2010; œil : cuivre poli, claire, effervescence minime, mousse fauve qui se transforme en un petit anneau, pas d’anneau; nez : malt, léger grain, léger houblon floral, léger madère; bouche : malt, léger grain, léger houblon floral, léger madère, finale en malt avec présence de grain, corps léger-moyen, carbonatation sous la moyenne, un peu mince, légère âcreté; en résumé : ordinaire

Bottle. Clear, golden body with a small, off-white head that diminishes. Aroma is grainy with an off taste of Band-Aid in the background. Some notes of citrus hop and caramel malt. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter and moderately acidic. Dry finish. Thought this was fairly disjointed, especially in the flavor.

Lightly hazed gold amber ale with a thick big bubbled white head. Strong diacetyl nose giving way to a sightly perfumey light hoppy aroma, with fruity ester apple notes. More malty than hoppy, with sweet fruity finish, and a solvent like mouthfeel. Lighter bodied. Bought in November 2004, at the brewery.

Clear amber with an average size head that starts to fall quickly. Malt aroma, no hops coming through. The flavor is balanced but lacks the intensity of a really great Pale Ale. Slightly astringent palate with a lack of finish. Light bodied and drinkable, but nothing remarkable overall.

Golden colour, little head and a bright 'aley' smell... no detectable hops in the smell. Noticable malt in the initial taste and a somewhat hoppy ending, but really overwhelmed with malt. Not a bad beer, but not a great APA.
