An unusual scotch ale, but they pull it off. Bottle aged for a year and a half. A deep brown body with a reddy tinge to it topped with a disappointingly thin off white head. The nose combines single malt scotch, wood smoke and sweet malt. Tastes like the beer version of one of those really peaty Island single malt scotches. And that is not a bad thing. First taste is the wood smoke followed closely by the peat and whiskey warmth. Caramel, grain, sweet bready malt blend in and balance the other tastes. The body is just on the thin side of medium with mild carbonation and a slightly slick mouth feel. Tasty.

This rauchbier poured a deep dark amber colour with a creamy, tan coloured head. Nice lacing. Scents include peat, smoke, white glue and medicinal gauze. First swig was smooth and creamy with flavours of peat, molasses and smoke. Finish is smokey with a sweet malty flavour that lingers.

650mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out peated smoke upfront, with bready malt and a hint of caramel. Flavour is sweet, malty and smoky in equal amounts, with bready malt, caramel, and moderate peated smoke. Peated and caramely. Pleasant stuff.

Sample at the Badge-Whore Bowl (OSU vs AL) tasting on 01/01/2015. The beer is cola-colored with a medium thin off-white head that recedes gradually. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of smoked malt and chocolate. Medium body with flavors of peat malt, dark chocolate and earthy hops. The finish is smoky with a peaty malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle from the LCBO. Pours a very dark brown with a one finger beige head. Nose is chocolate and a peaty smoke. The smoke is definitely prominent but not overpowering. Sweet chocolate and caramel but also an underlying bitterness. Mouth is much thinner than the look would imply and maybe a litlle over carbonated. Quite nice overall,
