Sweet New England maple syrup and a distinct pecan note define this balanced porter. The roasted character of our blend of malts complements the maple sweetness with hints of coffee and chocolate. Reddish-black in color, this full-bodied brew has a sweet and slightly nutty finish.

Bottle: Strong aroma of roast, smoke, earthy, nutty, and a little chocolate. Really a great smell. The sweetness of the maple comes through in the flavor, along with roasty and nutty notes. The sweet and the smoke gets a little funky in the tail, but overall I enjoyed this.

Pour is a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is all things roasted nuts. Some roasted malt also shows up. Flavor at first is a decent roasted malt but the real flavor comes after the swallow. A very nice maple syurp with a big roast and some chocolate. This was a soild porter with a nice suprise intense maple flavor left on the tounge.

Pours deep mahogany into a Sam glass. Mocha head craters and recedes leaving sticky lacing. Sweet caramel, maple and coffee aromas. Thin- to medium-bodied with sweet maple upfront turning to nutty pecan in the middle before the lasting bitter earth finish.

"Spring Thaw" mix pack 12 oz. bottle. My Sam Adams perfect pint has a thin white head on a brown liquid. No head retention and only a thin ring of white head. Aroma of maple syrup and a light nut. Flavor is sweet with the maple upfront followed by a light nuttiness then finishes with some light coffee notes. Medium leaning on a thin body. Carbonation is soft. Real sweet finish and could remind you of maple syrup on your morning pancakes.

tap at Brew Haven beer fest - Pours brown with a nutty aroma dominant with maple and malt in the background. The flavor is of roasted malt with assertive pecans. Itβs medium to full bodied and very good. I voted for this one as the clear winner. Hopefully Sam Adams puts it into full time production.

Sample from bottle at Midwest Brewers Fest. Very deep brown. A definite maple syrup flavor, here, kind of nutty. Thereβs a very deep maple taste to it. One of the more off-centered Sam Adams beers. A big drinking beer, massively sweet with a maple praline thread. Luckily Iβm not suffering from my usual reaction to nut flavored things.

Tap. Maple pecan malt aroma. Dark brown color with small head. Lightly sweet pecan malt and moderately bitter hay flavor. Very nice - not too sweet.
