Yuengling Dark Brewed Porter is an original specialty beer that has been brewed expressly for tavern owners and family trade since 1829. We are proud to be one of the largest Porter producers in the US. Our Porter calls for a generous portion of caramel and dark roasted malts, which deliver a rich, full-bodied flavor and creamy taste with slight tones of chocolate evident in every sip.

Deep black porter with a thin moka head. No aroma, no chocolates, no nothing. In mouth, chocolate malt, with rather cloying fruitiness. Short and light watery bodied beer. On tap at the CNY Brewfest 2006.

The first thing you notice is the big carbonation, especially for a porter. Malt aroma. Taste of roasted malt, slight chocolate, smoke and coffee. But mostly fizziness. Nothing special.

An opaque brown beer with a disappearing brown head. The aroma is sweet roasted. While the flavor is sweet, with slight notes of roasted malt and chocolate.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Dark as a Porter is supposed to be with a reddish tint and a light brown head. Slightly burnt notes with a dry bitterness. Basically a very light beer without much body. A Porter by traditional British standards and far from the heavy stuff (Imperial Stout) we call Porter in Denmark.

For years I did not think that I liked porters - this was because the only porter I had ever tried was from Yuengling. This was of course way back in my less adventurous days. Since then I have developed a mild liking for the style though it still is not one of my preferred beer styles. So it occurred to me that as my tastes have somewhat changed - that perhaps I should revisit the first porter I ever had. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a reddish black color with a large brown head. The aroma is malty and mildly vegetal. The flavor is weaker in malt than I would have expected from a porter. It was also sour and bitey. There was only a mild hint of chocolate. No real character to speak of. Just poor sour malt and bitterness. Time and an expanded palate have not improved this beer in my esteem.

This pours opaque black with a creamy off white head that would have pleased me more had it stayed a little longer. The aroma is sweet toasted marshmallows and malt. The flavor is very restrained for a Porter. Yuengling's brews, while not the world's greatest, are all very drinkable and priced to give the major American Brands competition. This Porter is somewhat lighter than standards, a refreshing one that can last into the warmer months.

A surprisingly good porter- surprising because it's a macro- but then again, I'm a huge fan of their traditional lager.

Dark dark brown colour with a ligher brown head. Almost no smell, a bit malty but other than that...nothing. A decent taste, initally strong, but really nothing hidden behind any of these flavours. A bit malty, a bit watery and a bit roasty. Not a good example of the style. While it might be a 'decent' beer because of the price, Yings are never great beers. Worth trying if you need to save money, I guess. I had this as a 12 ounce bottle purchased at Beers of the World in Rochester, New York.

Chestnut brown and looks like it is going to be a thick one, when, surprise! it turns out to be a light beer! well not really. But it was too watery and had very little body for what I expect out of a porter. Yes, this is a traditional porter, but you know what, it's not appealing to me, just like stegmaier. Prune juice comes to mind, some caramel/chocolate notes, but they are washed away. Tradition is only good in as much as it continues to be pertinent. Yuengling porter, you have passed your prime, old man.
