Der helle Antrunk ist erst einmal enttäuschend wässrig, was in Verlauf auch so bleibt. Etwas alkoholisch und hell malzig, süffig aber langweilig und eindimensional. 11/8/6/6//7

Drought. Amber red color, off-white small whitish head, strong resin aroma, sharp hoppy taste, long finish. Unbelievably smooth for a barley wine.

On tap. Pours with a mildly hazed copper hued body with a stray, fading, off-white head. Aromas are of alcohol, burnt caramel, toffee, sticky, overripe fruits, orange, marmalade, and a bit of herbal, nearly minty (hop?) notes (northern brewer?). Flavors are of caramel, herbal, sweet toffee. Super malty. Very long duration. Orange, ripe fruit, sweet, estery, alcoholic. Syrupy on the mouthfeel, with medium bubbles. Warming. Big body on this one.

Location: On tap at the Brewery - Union Square, 3/23/10
Aroma: It has a nose of citrus, pine, and toffee, nice American hop feel
Appearance: It pours a hazy caramel color, thin white head, lots of lace
Flavor: The taste is medium sweet (toffee), and light-medium bitter
Palate: Medium-full bodied beer with a decent mouthfeel
Overall Impression: This is a nice American style Barleywine. It has a very nice hop-feel to it, and is really pretty good overall. A surprisingly good beer from Heartland.

A hazy orange amber barley wine, with a thin white head. A plesant hopey aroma, nice and intense, with light vinous notes, restrained dark fruits. In mouth, a very nice example of the genre, very hoppy, like I like them, with strong grapefruit melding well with the sweet vinous malt, like a baked honey grapefruit (delicious at breakfast). Tasted at the Spuyten Duyvil, Nov. 2006.

On tap. It came with a deep copper color and nice tan head. The aroma was light. What I could smell was fruity-maltiness with a hint of spice presumably from the yeast. The flavor seemed a little light for a true Barleywine. There was sweet caramel maltiness that gave way to a little plum and date type fruit flavor. Nice light weight beer for the style.

Draught at Brewtopia ’04 Hazy reddish - orange color. Musty malt aroma. The flavor is better than the aroma providing some malt and spiciness to the palate. Needs more caramel sweetness to round this out some more. Average.

Muddy dark tan - as ugly as any barley wine. Aroma is spicy, mapley, crackerlike. Very medicinal taste - sprucy. Lots of malt, alcohol is subtle. Sweet and medicinal thoughout. Interesting, but I didn’t see what the fuss was about (several people had told me I needed to try it).

draught at brewtopia - seems like this has been aged a bit - cloudy and low in carbonation - quite rich and full-bodied - toffee, caramel, oats - a bit toasty almost - a bit of hops with a medium alcohol burn.
