PINTA Żytorillo 14,0° - our own vision of traditional rye beer. Classical rye beer (Roggenbier) is pale, full bodied and softly-hopped (like PINTA Apetyt na Życie 13,1°). We decided to take next step - we added more malts (roasted malt included), we used perfect yeast for dark beers of top fermentation (S-04) and we added a bunch of Amarillo® hops (USA). PINTA Żytorillo 14,0° - rye beer for new days.
Ingredients: water, Weyermann® barley malts: pale ale, rye, Munich II, roasted Carafa® Special II; hops: Amarillo (USA); yeast: Safale™ S-04.

10 cl. draft @ Billie’s Bier Kafeteria. Black nicely lacing mocha head. Nose is roasted malt, umami syrup, thick licorice, almost a touch of varnish with some bitterness. Taste is mellow bitterness, largely licorice, molasses, light touch of varnish, finish carries brief sweet mocha but it doesn’t balance the licorice&umami, lightly empty, some bitter bark. Soft carbonation, body is licorice syrup. Decent, drinks pretty well, bit odd but not bad.

Bottle from De Caigny, small sample. Dark brown color, short frothy head. Aroma of roast, dark fruit, slight pine, bit coffee. Quite dry and roasty in taste, soft bitterness. Too dry or not sweet enough to make it more balanced. Ok.

At Kufle i kapsle, Warsaw, February 2014. Shared with lovely Anja. Black with off-white head and some lacing. Citrus hops, roasty malts. Light sweet turning to quite bitter. Soft carbonation, full taste, lasting bitter finish. Very interesting.

Bottled 500ml. -at Pivoteka Zagreb. Black coloured, small to medium sized off-white head, rye bread in the nose. Roasted malt, rye, light chocolate and some herbal hops with mild bitter hoppy finish. Nothing special here.

On tap at Craft Room. Murky dark brown body with a nice off white/tan head. Aroma... popcorn and roasted bell peppers, earthy, not much hop really, if at all. Taste... enormous roasted bell peppers, spicy, a touch of glue, vague herbal notes from the hops, which are pretty subdued. Medium bitterness though. Eh... in this shape, this is entirely a mess and not easy to drink, and yet, interesting. I hoped for more...

Dark brown to black colored, medium beige creamy head. Aroma is of roasted malt, some chocolate, light caramel, medium- floral and citrus hoppiness. Taste is medium+ sweet caramel and chocolate, roasted malt, rye, medium- citrus and floral hoppy aroma, moderate roasted-hoppy bitter mix, dry finish. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, bit creamy. Decent bitterness but more malty than hoppy for a BIPA. (bottle, Pivoteka Zagreb)
