La Folie, French for "the folly," is a beer steeped in New Belgium brewing tradition. This wood-aged, sour brown spends one to three years in big oak barrels known as foeders. And when the beer finally hits the glass, La Folie is sharp and sour, full of green apple, cherry, and plum-skin notes. Pouring a deep mahogany, the mouthfeel will get you puckering while the smooth finish will get you smiling. Not a beer for the timid, La Folie is a sour delight that will turn your tongue on its head. Find out why it's considered one of the best sour beers around.

Bottle at Toronado SF. It pours deep ruby, with a thin beige head. The nose is malt vinegar, balsamic, tangy cherry, strawberry and wood. The taste is malt vinegar, tart cherry, wood, stewed strawberry, cherry pip, touch of spice and lemony tartness, with a tangy-tart finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and decent balance. I like it quite a bit, but prefer Rodenbach Grand Cru.

Cranberry nose, twigs and sticks. Clear tea, thin yellow head. Very tart, cranberry flavor. Mouthfeel is like 9%olt battery on the tongue, not hot.

Bottle, as New Belgium Lips of Faith - La Folie Sour Brown Ale. (bought at Binnyβs Beverage Depot - Lincoln Park, Chicago in October 2011) Clear reddish/brown with a minimal white head. Nice sweet aroma with berries, wood, apples and maybe some vanilla. The sourness was soft, but it was there. The taste was good, berries with a pleasant sourness. The finish was dry. Reminded of a Rodenbach. Worth a try.

22oz bomber from Pinch poured into a snifter. Pours a dark nut brown with a small bit of tan head. Aroma of green apples and alcohol. Taste is heavily sour. Tastes like Granny Smith apples and Warheads candy. Light bodied with a thin texture. Lively carbonation and a long sour finish. Overall, very good for my first sour. Something I would drink again, but next time I would share with a friend.

Yet another delicious sour from New Belgium. La Folie doesnβt attack your tastebuds with Warhead-like aggression; rather, it takes a moment for the sourness to build, slowly growing momentum until the oak-laced finish takes hold. Easy-drinking yet deep, this brew rocks.

Bottle shared at ACBS courtesy of Steptin. Cheers James! Clear dark red beer, tiny cream coloured head. Sourish medicinal and Dr Pepper nose. Light dry palate. Taste follows the nose. Very dry finish with a sourish note. Not really my kind of beer but this was alright!

Bottled 11/07 sampled 1/09 Received in trade with sfromdawes, thanks for the opportunity. Pours a crystal clear red/amber with a massive bubbly off white head that calms down after a while but never totally leaves. Aroma of tart cherries, acid, a little bit of funk, some spice. I can smell some sweet malt in the background especially as it warms. The taste is quite the puckering experience, sour citrus fruits, a bit of acid, some funk. Body is medium, mouthfeel is sour, carbonation is high. Great sour ale, Iβm glad I got the chance to try this.
