75cl Zwarte Ruiter, matured 1 year on wood. Sour fresh nose. The beer starts smooth and sourish. Easy to drink, the wood and the great winey sourness is there, very refreshing with not too much sweetness. Red winey hints, caramel and malts in the body, smooth sourness. The aftertaste is woody sour, intense and refreshing, quite deep for that low ABV, nice stuff!

(Draught at Café Briljant, Haarlem, 15 Sep 2016, as "Zwarte Ruiter") Dark reddish brown colour with dense, beige head. Fruity, sourish nose with sour cherries, caramel, raspberries and a touch of balsamic vinegar. Fruity, tart taste with notes of caramel, balsamic vinegar, sour berries and a sweet and sour finish with low bitterness. Light body, with a touch of sweetness. Fresh and tasty oud bruin. Quite nice.

Tap at Gollem Amstelstraat during pubcrawl. Dark but clear chestnut with cream tan head. Sour grapes, vinegar, wood, sugar. Medium sweet and sour. Medium body, malty feel. Grapey feel. 10th July 2016. Bottle (as Zwarte Ruiter) at RBESG Grand Tasting Part 2: Brew Pub Le Sec. Red hue to the brown body, the head a beige affair. The aroma was caramel led with some fruity esters, the taste similar but more fruity, a little sourness and less caramel. Different and a nice change from the heavy alcohol laden beers I had around it during the tasting.

75 cl bottle. Pours hazy dark brown with a deep orange glare. Small off white head. Aroma is toasted and slight fruity. Sweet, fruity, slight citric. Berries. Sweet and fruity, toasted and malty. Sweet fruity far finish.

75cl bottle. Dark ruby pour, clear, with a thin tan head. Notes of caramel, vinegar and subtle cider. A bit too sweet and one-dimensional.

Tap at Arendsnest. Clear dark reddish brown with beige head. Overripe fruits, quite sugary, sweet berries, sweet balsamico. This seems a bit bland after the insane foeder version I’m having next to it. Medium sweet and light sour. Medium bodied.

On tap at Stadsbrouwhuis Leiden. Sold as Mestreechs Aajt, but given the fact Zwarte Ruiter is now widely on sale (=Mestreechs Aajt O.A.) and the regular is very rare, I’ll rate it here. Will get me a bottle as well to check ;-). Clear copper-amber-brown colour, off-white head. Aroma of lots of wood, tart, brown sugar, red berries, fruits, malts. Flavour is tart, woody, fruity, berries, malts, a bit of caramel, brown sugar in a non-sweet way, tart-bitter finish with lots of wood. Light bodied. Good. Flavour is brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, light chocolate malts, tart finish. Medium bodied. Well done for such a low abv beer.

75 cl in box, special edition no3, obv Mestreechs Aajt, 1 jaar gelagerd op hout. Weet niet of dit hetzelfde is als het basisbier maar dat merken we dan wel. Schenkt donker:caramelbruin met licht gelig/witte kraag. Aroma van hout, rood fruit, fruitzuur. Smaken zijn redelijk tot stevig zoet, matig maar erg zacht zuur, hout, vanille, donker fruit, helaas ook wat zoetstof te proeven van de saccharine, wat lactose, fruitig basiskarakter, bruine suiker, rood fruit, rozijn, matige body, maar gewoon erg smaakvol en bovendien maar 3.5%.
