Leute Bokbier was first brewed in 1927. It was then called Leutebock and was a lager (bottom fermentation), a completely different beer than the current one. Production was stopped after a number of years. In 1997, 70 years later, Leute Bokbier was relaunched as a completely different beer.
Fun fact: the name “bokbier” does not refer to bokbier, but literally to the ''bok'' or buck.

Herb-malziger Beginn, kräutrig, weich, getreidig, etwas hefig. Die Kräuternoten steigen an, schwacher Hintergrund, kein Nachgeschmack. 10/8/6/6/6/6

Bottled. Pours deep brown colour with beige head. Tart grape/wine-like and woody notes in aroma. In taste it has the same notes, tart and sweet in well balance with a long, warm finish. Surprisingly light bodied, softly carbonated and therefore easy to drink. Nice brew.

Nice maltiness, but quite sweet. Bready, and caramel. A belgian version of a classic german style. Some odd metallic flavors, and quite sweet. Semi dry lightly bitter finish.

Aroma of dark malt, caramel, dark fruits, raisins, candy. Flavour is medium sweet with a hint of bitterness in the long finish. Smooth and full. Still a bit too sweet for my taste. Otherwise okay Belgian take on the Bock.
