Leute Bokbier was first brewed in 1927. It was then called Leutebock and was a lager (bottom fermentation), a completely different beer than the current one. Production was stopped after a number of years. In 1997, 70 years later, Leute Bokbier was relaunched as a completely different beer.

Fun fact: the name “bokbier” does not refer to bokbier, but literally to the ''bok'' or buck.

Deep brown with a reddish shine, brown head, collapsing. Smells sweet, spicy liqueur aroma. Quite a sweet beer, little bitter aftertaste. Funny glass. Not bad, but too sweet for me.

Reddish brown colour, beige head. Aroma of malts, iron, caramel and roasted malts. Quite mineral flavour, light sweet, bitter roasted malts. Malty finish, pronounced yeast, quite spicy, speculaaskruiden.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Mitra. Dark brown with a huge off-white head. Malty, earthy aroma with some roasted notes. Good doppelbock taste, not too sweet, not too bitter but nicely balanced. Very rounded mouthfeel. Aftertaste could be a bit longer lasting though. Overall a good doppelbock

11.2 oz bottle from a Brouwerij Van Steenberge variety pack. Pours hazy brown with an amber tint in the light and a medium beige head with great retention. Aroma consists of doughy bread, dark fruit, spices (cinnamon?). Taste is lightly sweet and tart with a hint of bitterness. Highly carbonated (too much, actually, just like all this brewery’s beers I’ve had) with a medium body. Looks like I saved the best from this variety pack for last. It’s head and shoulders above the other five.

330ml bottle. Pours dark caramel brown with a large, frothy head. Aroma is woody caramel and raisin. Taste is sweet with raisin to start, more in the finish with caramel in the finish, which is a little short. Touch of yeast.
