Leute Bokbier was first brewed in 1927. It was then called Leutebock and was a lager (bottom fermentation), a completely different beer than the current one. Production was stopped after a number of years. In 1997, 70 years later, Leute Bokbier was relaunched as a completely different beer.
Fun fact: the name “bokbier” does not refer to bokbier, but literally to the ''bok'' or buck.

Pour is a thick brown with a creamy whie head. Aroma is of dark fruit with some sugar and yeasty esters. Flavor is again dark fruit, molasses and a big sugar finish. This was decent as I really liked the dark fruit aspect. The sweetness could have been toned down a bit but not one trace of alcohol.

This review covers four bottles (all 0.33cl) which I tried to drink (in Jan 2009) using the weird glass and wooden block that came with the beers. The beers were from different batches. The first one was so vingerous in the smell and first sip it was poured straight down the drain. The next two were on the turn and I had trouble finishing them. The last one was OK, but boring, just a dark lager really. The proper colour should have been a dark browny amber colour, three of mine were lighter than that! No smell from the drinkable bottle (thank goodness). An off-white head sat on them all, with lacing on the best beer too. Even the good bottle was not very good. The glass is interesting, the beer isn’t.

33 cl bottle thanks to deft! Sampled on April 21, 2012. BB 14/09/12Hazy ruby red color, dense thick lasting tan head. Sweet, lactic, licorice, malty, sugar, alcohol, spicy scent. Malty, some smoke, alcohol, fruity, sugar taste. Malty, roasted, lactic, spicy aftertaste. Feels like a great winter beer after coming in from a walk in a dark and snowy storm. Warming alcohol. Mainly moussy mouthfeel. Medium to medium low bitterness. Sort of dry mineral finish.I like it, well balanced and nice taste, hides alcohol well, I’d buy it for sure. Perhaps could use a little less co2.
