Backlog September 2011. Brewed by Brouwerij De Regenboog as T Smisje Speciale around 2010/2011. Dark golden body with lively carbonation under a huge, creamy off-white head. Fresh aroma of spices, light malt, fruitiness and toffee. Taste is sweet and spicy with malt, generic fruit, toffee and low bitterness.

Light orange color with the tiniest particles of yeast floating in the glass. Melon aroma. Full bodied. Very fruiy flavor, with melon and orange. The alcohol is partly hidden by the fruity sweetness. Hazelnuts and some bitterness, especially in the aftertaste. Off the beaten track, but friendly. Re-rate: bottle. Orange blonde witha touch of grey. Cloudy. Yeast, anis and mint in the aroma. Malt, mint, honey and yeast in the alcoholic flavor. Sweetish with some tropical fruit.

Pours very dark amber, still clear though. Small white head dissapears within half a minute. Smell is intense, herbal/yeasty with a bit of sweetness and some booze. distant notes of what reminds of pumpkin, as well as some spices. Taste is full, very stong yeast, with a sharp, intense Sugar taste. not specificaly sweet, though there - of course - is sweetness. medium bitterness. Some malts, but really heavy, not fresh or crisp at all. Aftertaste has some of the more complex notes, but most of all yeasty-type herbal and spiced essences. Very boozy all the way though; Earlier Rating: 11/5/2016 Total Score: 3.1Pours clear amber. Small white head. Smell is bit aged’ Taste is full, bit sweet, oxidized. Still a Nice mf

Hazy amber to copper colored, medium to strong beige creamy head. Aroma is Belgian yeast, fruits, candy sugar, caramel, pumpkin and spices. Taste is quite sweet candy sugar, toffee and caramel, fruits, strong pumpkin and spices, some ripe fruits and bit of tartness, bit of alcohol. Medium+ bodied, average to soft carbonation, sticky syrupy. Way too sweet. (bottle, ’t Brugs Beertje, Brugge, B)

Pumpkin ale tasted as ’t Smisje Halloween, with a light yellowish white, regular, medium thick, unstable head and deep orange blonde colour, hazy but milky with deposit. Sweetly perfumed aroma, honey, white port wine, white candi sugar, caramel, rhum, orange, mint, pumpkin soup, aniseed. Sweetish peachy and citrussy onset, smooth and somewhat oily mouthfeel, caramelly malts, becoming more sweet afterwards and even a bit cloying, honeyish and brown rhum-like, soft pumpkin presence, spicy and yeasty finish with light floral hop bitterness as well as warming, even somewhat astringent alcohol; this was a bit too sweet and too alcoholic to my taste, but still another interesting Smisje.

Apparently, this was meant to be a Halloween beer. This becomes clear with the use of pumpkin in this quadrupel/barley wine-like dark and spicey ale. Quite a unique beer and very good.
