Nice orange colour, a lot of foam but it disappears quickly. Sweet complex nose. Fruity, notes of raisins, white wine, plums. Light bitter and warm alcoholic finish. Nice beer!

Bottle at home - 19/08/12, thanks to Wim for an IP trade. Pours a golden orange colour with a decent off white head that soon subsides but has a good level of retention. Lively looking carbonation billowing around in the glass. Sweet pumpkin at the fore of the nose allied to candied sugar and apricot/peaches and a little yeast. Sweet malts on the flavour, pumpkin, candied fruits, caramel, hops. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation on the palate dispite the intitial highly carbonated appearance. Bitter sweet finish with aslightly warming alochol taste. Lots of lacing prevalent. Very well diguised alcohol in this beer. If I was blind tasting I’d have guessed at 6 or 7%. Really enjoyed this one!

33 cl. bottle @ ’t Brugs Beertje // the label is a slightly messed-up version of their cartoon dog mascot character dressed as red ridding hood, collecting stuff in his pumpkin basket at night with ghosts floating around // the name Halloween is probably more fitting than the official name but Special also definitely works // pours an pumpkin amber, lots of rising bubbles visible, off-white stable head, adding the yeast at the bottom of the bottle turns it into a brownish rotting fruits colour & improves the taste as well // smell is pure candy sugar blended with lots of pumpkin seeds, caramelized, burned toffee, lots of sweet spices // taste is very weird, truly Halloween or special and yes indeed a pumpkin beer, is this the only pumpkin beer made in Belgium? It just might be, taste is like the bitter insides of a pumpkin, truly insane amounts of that stuff, pumpkin sees, lots of caramel, candy sugar, spices, bitter vegetable & pumpkin soup, going into a bitter grass, floral, almost hint of metallic & boozy finish, very weird, off turning at first, you sort of get into it by the end but this like eating the insides of a raw pumpkin with raw candy sugar or something, some Halloween treat // body is way, way too carbonated like sparkling water level of carbonation, what the hell?

Bottle. Pours hazy amber with a small white head. Aroma of fruit, orange, caramel, malt, vegetables and spice. Flavour is moderate sweet, light bitter with noticeable alcohol. Medium bodied with too high carbonation.

33 Cl bottle taken in the back room of ‘tBrugs Beertje (through and past the toilets): Tom was looking after everybody back there this evening in Dec 2011. The body was a hazy orange colour, on top a large off-white head. Yeasty, citrusy hopped nose; tried to find pumpkin, but failed. The taste was yeast, bread, sweetness and grapefruit flavours, tried to find pumpkin but failed; maybe that was the sweetness I got? The beer is a little too alcoholic for its own good, being to powerful compared to the depth of flavours and body; it is found to easily and tarnishes the overall mouth feel and tasting experience.

Light copper colour. Thick, foamy head. Aroma is very yeasty, like bread dough. Flavour is yeasty at first then has some citrus. It becomes quite sweet from the pumpkin but pleasntly so. Warming alcohol finish but in no way harsh.

33cl bottle from my beer cellar. Aged 2 years, shared with friends. Thin white head. Hazy amber pour. Clear alcohol taste but still another very good Smisje beer

Orange colour, off-white lasting head. Some small floats. Aroma of malts, fruity hops, pronounced pumpkin and pumpkin sweetness, caramel and light yeast spiciness. Flavour is rather sweet, good malt backbone, golden raisins, yeast. Quite full body. Alcohol showing through (nice alcohol warmth) and finish rather sweet with a hint of pumpkin.

33 cl bottle, BBE Q3/2014
Aroma is rather floury and has some stale vegetables and grain. Loads of CO2 in palate. Flavour is spicy and it gets more intensive in the aftertaste. Some vegetables and orange peel there too. Not very nice, but hides almost all of the alcohol well. I had also another bottle of this that had leaked some of its content to the transportation box - and it was better than this!
